Job summary

Hanover Insurance Group, Inc. in Worcester, MA is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead day-to-day accounting operations, internal controls, and GAAP/statutory reporting.

The role offers a hybrid work arrangement and full-time exempt status. You will supervise the accounting team, drive process improvements, coordinate with auditors, and ensure accuracy of financial statements, regulatory filings, and data integrity across SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle, and BI tools.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5-8 years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience.
• Insurance accounting, public accounting, or a combination thereof preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• CPA, MBA, or Master's degree in Accounting strongly preferred.
• Experience with SAP, NAIC, GAAP, SEC, and statutory accounting principles strongly preferred.
• Experience with financial reporting and ERP systems including PeopleSoft, Oracle, SAP, Essbase, Hyperion, Power BI, or similar tools.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day accounting operations, internal controls, and QA activities.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Review complex journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting workpapers.
• Prepare, review and analyze financial results, investigate variances.
• Coordinate with internal and external auditors during audits.
• Drive process improvements and automation initiatives.
