Job summary

The Virginia Department of Accounts seeks an Accounting Analyst to monitor, reconcile, and report financial activity for state agencies and localities, ensuring timely certification and accurate ledgers.

This hybrid role based in Richmond, VA requires GAAP knowledge, strong analytical and communication skills, and experience with automated financial systems and Excel to support audits, month-end close, and fiscal reporting.

Qualifications

• Experience or education in Accounting.
• Experience performing financial reconciliations and GAAP compliance.
• Knowledge of GAAP and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access).
• Strong organizational, analytical, and written communication skills.
• Ability to analyze complex financial data and document findings.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily, weekly, and monthly monitoring, analyses, and reconciliations.
• Prepare complex statewide reconciliations and analyses; communicate with agencies; track resolutions.
• Resolve discrepancies reported by local treasurers and circuit court clerks; prepare correcting entries.
• Prepare monthly disbursements, payment allocation schedules, and quarterly reports.
• Participate in special projects and update procedures as needed.
