Job summary

The Academic Advisor I provides guidance to University students on academic progress, courses, University resources, etc. Identifies courses to be completed in upcoming semesters and explains University and College policies. May teach compass course as needed.

Additional duties include advising undergraduate students daily on registration and degree progress, coordinating programs, and helping new students orientation. Emphasis on exploration, goals and first year concerns.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher.
• Demonstrate sensitivity to needs of a population from various backgrounds.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills including public speaking.
• Advising with a focus on exploration, adjustment and student success.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance to students on academic progress, courses and resources.
• Advise undergraduate students on registration and degree progress.
• Explain university and college policies and may teach compass course as needed.
• Meet with prospective students and parents to discuss the college and its majors.
