Job summary

HES Facilities Management is seeking a skilled HVAC technician in Chambersburg, PA. The role requires a Journeyman HVAC license and at least five years of commercial HVAC experience, with strong troubleshooting for electrical and mechanical systems.

You will operate and maintain chillers, boilers, and BAS, perform preventive maintenance, and document all work. A valid state driver’s license and basic hand tools are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 2-year HVAC training or apprenticeship.
• Journeyman HVAC license required.
• HVAC CFC Certification and NATE Certification desirable.
• Five years in commercial HVAC experience.
• Must have basic hand tools and valid driver's license.
• Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout procedures and CMMS/BAS.

Responsibilities

• Proficient in chiller operation and repair; troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems.

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on all HVAC equipment and controls systems.

• Observe and report unusual situations; assist with emergency shutdown procedures.
• Complete all required documentation and work orders; report status and parts needs.
• Maintain and calibrate HVAC controls; understand BAS; respond to alarms.
• On-call duties as required; support other trades when needed.

Essential Accountabilities

• Proficient in chiller operation and repair, ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems.
• Proficient steam boiler and pressure vessel operator.
• Perform major and routine maintenance, service, repair and installations on all heating and ventilating equipment and controls as assigned.
• Perform all scheduled preventative maintenance on all heating and ventilating equipment and controls systems as assigned.
• Operate and perform all diagnostic system checks on all heating and ventilating equipment and controls as assigned.
• Specific competencies shall include, but not be limited to the following: principles of boiler design; general operation practices; effects of water treatment; inspection requirements; emergency shutdown procedures.

Other Accountabilities

• Complete all required documentation, including all scheduled and unscheduled work orders, report status of faulty equipment and systems, parts requirements, and manhour reports.
• Properly use and be responsible for all tools and equipment used during the performance of daily work duties.
• Maintain awareness of location and areas served by all heating and ventilating equipment and systems. Become familiar with all new and modified systems as soon as possible.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by authorized personnel, including those for emergency situations.
• Make recommendations to immediate supervisor about how methods and procedures can be improved. Observe and report unusual situations, reactions, effects or conditions to responsible persons.
• Operate various machine shop tools, braze or solder various items as required in the fabrication or repair of all heating and ventilating equipment.
• Maintain and calibrate all related heating and ventilating controls and control systems. Understand Building Automation Systems. Respond to all alarms and troubleshoot problems throughout systems.
• Perform on-call duties when required.
• Support other trades when required.
• Perform required paperwork/record-keeping (duties to include data entry in computerized maintenance management, system work order documentation and activity reports).

• Accommodate customers, staff, and visitors when working in public areas. Ensure safe passage of passersby and anyone in/around the work area.

Qualifications

Education:

• High School graduate, GED, or equivalent experience.
• 2-year military, vocational or apprentice training in HVAC.

Licensures & Certifications:

• Journeyman HVAC license.
• Experience: Five years in commercial HVAC.
• Technical/educational skills.
• Diagnose utilizing developed analytical skills.
• Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and positive attitude.
• Must have required basic hand tools.
• Must understand Lock out Tag out Procedures.
• Basic knowledge of CMMS and BAS is required.
