Job summary

Mentor Technical Group in Boston, MA is seeking an HVAC Technician III to ensure optimal performance, safety, and efficiency of HVAC systems in a manufacturing environment. You will troubleshoot, maintain, and repair complex equipment to support uninterrupted production operations.

The role requires 5+ years in HVAC, strong knowledge of HVAC systems and controls, and ability to read blueprints. CMMS familiarity, PLC/BAS knowledge, and OSHA certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years in HVAC maintenance/repair, manufacturing setting preferred.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, controls and electrical components.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints/schematics/technical manuals.
• Associate degree or technical certification in HVAC preferred.
• CMMS experience; PLCs and BAS knowledge; OSHA 10 or 30-hour safety certs preferred.
• Experience with large-scale industrial HVAC equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostics, repair and maintenance on HVAC systems (chillers, boilers, air handlers, refrigeration).
• Lead preventive maintenance schedules to ensure reliability and safety.
• Collaborate with engineering and maintenance to improve energy efficiency.
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts inventory.
• Respond to emergency HVAC failures to minimize downtime.
• Train and mentor junior HVAC technicians.

About the Role:

The HVAC Technician III plays a critical role in ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and efficiency of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems within a manufacturing environment. This position involves advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of complex HVAC equipment to support uninterrupted production operations. The technician will lead efforts to diagnose system malfunctions, implement corrective actions, and perform preventive maintenance to extend equipment lifespan. Collaboration with engineering and maintenance teams is essential to optimize system designs and improve energy efficiency. Ultimately, this role ensures a comfortable and safe working environment while minimizing downtime and operational costs.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in HVAC maintenance and repair, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, and electrical components.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate degree or technical certification in HVAC technology or related field.
• Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
• Knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and building automation systems (BAS).
• OSHA 10 or 30-hour safety certification.
• Experience working with large-scale industrial HVAC equipment.

Responsibilities:

• Perform advanced diagnostics, repair, and maintenance on a variety of HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, air handlers, and refrigeration units.
• Lead and execute preventive maintenance schedules to ensure reliability and compliance with safety standards.
• Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to identify system improvements and implement energy-saving initiatives.
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts inventory to support operational transparency and compliance.
• Respond promptly to emergency HVAC system failures to minimize production downtime and ensure workplace safety.
• Train and mentor junior HVAC technicians to develop their technical skills and knowledge.
• Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies and safety standards.
