Job summary

The Jackson Laboratory in Gainesville, FL is seeking an HVAC Technician II to operate, troubleshoot, calibrate, install and repair HVAC and process equipment in a highly regulated environment supporting data centers, live animal colonies and research facilities.

You will lead small-scale installations, coordinate with contractors, mentor Technician I staff, and document maintenance using a CMMS. On-call duties and occasional travel may apply; after-hours response is expected.

Qualifications

• HVAC degree or certificate; building automation systems knowledge.
• 3 years experience in HVAC maintenance in critical environments.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.

• Lead small-scale installations and commissioning of related systems.
• Manage contractors in routine preventative and corrective maintenance.

• Participate in on-call status and respond to emergencies within one hour, 24/7.
• Occasional travel may be required for training and support at other sites.

HVAC Technician II – GainesvilleHVAC Technician work is performed in a highly regulated critical environment that supports data centers, live animal colonies and sensitive research facilities on a 24/7 basis. These systems regulate environmental conditions required for research integrity and animal welfare. Failures or incorrect operation can lead to loss of research data, interruption of scientific operations, or harm to animals. Technicians at all levels are responsible for the operation, maintenance, modification, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial and industrial HVAC systems, high pressure steam & condensate systems, compressed air, process equipment, and other related systems as required by departmental needs. HVAC Technician Level II: Independently troubleshoots more complex issues without assistance and performs basic programming of existing systems. Trains junior technicians on routine maintenance and inspection tasks. Leads planned evolutions including outages, maintenance, and construction activity. Reliably resolves emergency system conditions including after hours response.
