Job summary

Middle Tennessee State University’s Energy Services department is seeking an HVAC Technician 2 to independently maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and replace complex HVAC, refrigeration, and control systems across campus facilities.

You will perform advanced diagnostics, system installations, major equipment replacements, and controls work while serving as a technical resource for lower-classification staff and ensuring safety, efficiency, and reliability of HVAC systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or High School Equivalency is required.
• EPA certification is required.
• Significant experience with a wide variety of HVAC systems, or completion of a recognized HVAC apprenticeship is required.
• Valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced preventive maintenance and system optimization.
• Diagnose complex HVAC malfunctions and determine repair vs. replacement.
• Install and replace HVAC equipment and control systems.
• Perform electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and DDC control work.
• Read and interpret complex wiring schematics and control drawings.
• Coordinate with vendors for specialized parts and services.
• Verify work quality and assist in guiding lower classification technicians.
• Respond to critical system failures and emergency situations.

Job Summary/Basic Function

Independently maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and replace complex HVAC, refrigeration, and control systems for campus facilities. Perform advanced diagnostics, system installations, major equipment replacements, and controls work. Serve as a technical resource for lower-classification staff and ensure HVAC systems operate efficiently, safely, and reliably.

Required Education
