Job summary

Aerotek is seeking an HVAC Technician for a permanent role in Auburn, IN. The ideal candidate will maintain, repair, and optimize industrial HVAC systems, with emphasis on rooftop units, chillers, cooling towers, and ventilation. You will troubleshoot electrical/mechanical issues and support a 25-person maintenance team in a deadline-driven automotive manufacturing environment.

Shift is 1st, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Qualifications

  • HVAC experience in industrial or commercial environments is required.
  • EPA 608 Universal certification is required.
  • Strong troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical HVAC issues.
  • Service and repair of rooftop and ceiling HVAC units.
  • Ability to handle refrigerants safely (e.g., Freon).
  • Experience with three-phase power and control circuits.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics in industrial settings.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance on HVAC and facility equipment.
  • Willingness to support maintenance teams as needed.
  • Capable of quick problem-solving in a production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and service HVAC units inside the facility, including rooftops and ceilings.
  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment throughout the facility.
  • Conduct daily inspections to ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues in HVAC systems.

  • Assist with PMs on production equipment and facilities when HVAC work is caught up.
  • Support facilities maintenance and production operations to minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with a large maintenance team to prioritize work.

Job Description

The HVAC Technician maintains, repairs, and optimizes all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems throughout a large, deadline-driven industrial facility. This role focuses on rooftop and ceiling units, chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, and ventilation systems, ensuring reliable operation both indoors and outdoors. The technician performs daily inspections, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical issues, and supports the broader maintenance team with plant and facilities work when HVAC needs are met.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and service all HVAC units inside the facility, including rooftop units, ceiling units, and other climate control equipment.

  • Perform HVAC repairs and preventive maintenance on all HVAC equipment throughout the facility, both indoors and outdoors.

  • Conduct daily inspections of HVAC systems to identify potential issues and ensure optimal performance.

  • Troubleshoot HVAC units to diagnose issues such as bad capacitors, electrical faults, and mechanical failures.

  • Work with refrigerants (including Freon) safely and in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Oversee and maintain chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, ventilation systems, exhaust fans, and related equipment.

  • Perform electrical troubleshooting on HVAC systems, including three-phase power and control circuits.

  • Assist with industrial maintenance tasks, including preventive maintenance (PMs) on production equipment and facility systems when HVAC work is caught up.

  • Support the facilities maintenance team and plant floor operations by responding to equipment issues and helping keep production running smoothly.

  • Collaborate with a large maintenance team and production partners to prioritize work, minimize downtime, and meet customer deadlines.

  • Problem-solve on the fly and resolve HVAC and equipment issues in a timely manner in a high-temperature, deadline-driven environment.

  • Follow safety procedures and best practices while working inside and outside the facility, including in areas with elevated temperatures.

  • Document work performed, communicate equipment status, and report recurring issues to support continuous improvement of maintenance processes.

Essential Skills
  • 3–5 years of experience in HVAC, preferably in industrial or commercial environments; residential experience may be considered.

  • EPA 608 Universal certification.

  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting electrical and mechanical HVAC issues.

  • Proficiency in HVAC service and repair, including rooftop and ceiling units.

  • Ability to work with refrigerants such as Freon safely and effectively.

  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including experience with three-phase power.

  • Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial setting.

  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance on HVAC and facility equipment.

  • Willingness to support the industrial maintenance team and facilities maintenance team when needed.

  • Capability to problem-solve quickly and fix issues in a timely manner in a production environment.

  • Comfort working in high-temperature areas and in varying indoor and outdoor conditions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting in relation to equipment and HVAC controls.

  • Experience in industrial or commercial HVAC systems, including chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, and ventilation systems.

  • Familiarity with exhaust fans and other facility ventilation components.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a large maintenance team and collaborate with production departments.

  • Strong communication skills to coordinate work and share equipment status.

  • Attention to detail in performing inspections, maintenance, and repairs.

  • Commitment to safety practices and proper handling of tools, equipment, and refrigerants.

Work Environment

This role operates on 1st shift, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The technician works both inside and outside the facility and will be exposed to varying weather conditions. The plant tempers and forms glass for windshields and uses ovens, so certain areas can reach temperatures up to approximately 110 degrees. Despite the heat in some zones, the facility is extremely clean with minimal dirt and is organized to support efficient maintenance and production operations. The HVAC Technician joins a team of about 25 Maintenance Technicians who partner closely with production to perform preventive maintenance and keep equipment running. The environment is deadline‑driven, supporting automotive manufacturing as a Tier 2 supplier, requiring timely problem‑solving and responsiveness to customer expectations. Branded work attire and safety programs, including safety shoes and prescription safety glasses, are provided to support a professional and safe working environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $62400.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
