Job summary

The University of South Carolina is seeking an HVAC/EMS Technician I for USC Aiken Housing in Aiken, SC. The role focuses on preventive and corrective maintenance of mechanical and HVAC equipment across housing residences, with after-hours on-call rotations and a full-time schedule.

Responsibilities include repairing HVAC components, performing preventive maintenance, and maintaining electrical and mechanical systems.

  • Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment; rebuilds pumps and compressors; changes air filters: repairs exhaust fans, water circulating pumps, air compressors, air handlers, etc.
  • Performs maintenance, repair/replacement and installation on mechanical and electrical systems. Systems include motors, pumps, electrical appliances/fixtures, lamps, receptacles/light switches and specialized equipment. Repairs simple electrical systems.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

HVAC Tech (HVAC/EMS Technician I)

Salary: $44,296 – $54,263 per year

Work Location: USC Aiken Housing, Aiken, SC

Full Time, 40 hours per week, 12 months

The HVAC Technician performs preventive and corrective maintenance on all mechanical & HVAC equipment at the USC Aiken Housing residences. Performs general maintenance as required to include, but not limited to, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and general maintenance.

Job Duties
  • Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs the HVAC systems including repair/replacement of compressors, coils, controllers, actuator motors, motor drives (VFDS), pressure transmitters and other related equipment. Maintains equipment in peak operating condition. Maintains and repairs all components related to HVAC.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment; rebuilds pumps and compressors; changes air filters: repairs exhaust fans, water circulating pumps, air compressors, air handlers, etc.
  • Performs maintenance, repair/replacement and installation on mechanical and electrical systems. Systems include motors, pumps, electrical appliances/fixtures, lamps, receptacles/light switches and specialized equipment. Repairs simple electrical systems.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of and ability to use tools, equipment and materials used in general building maintenance and construction.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use techniques, methods and practices in trades field.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, various wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Position will be placed on a rotational “on-call” (after hours) work.
Minimum Requirements

Requires job related accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program and 2 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience installing split HVAC units and refrigeration license.

Employees in Safety-Sensitive or Security-Sensitive positions will be subject to pre-employment and post-employment drug testing in accordance with University policy HR 1.95 Drug and Alcohol Testing.
