  • Instruct junior mechanics in proper protocols and repair procedures.
  • Report job information and material needs to supervision.
  • Report unsafe practices or conditions to supervision.
  • Study technical materials to improve knowledge of equipment and safety protocols.

This position will assist in evaluating the needs of each system to maintain critical heating and cooling systems on campus and will provide support to other Facilities Services utilities groups or departments in the performance and completion of various tasks as requested.

Job Description
The Senior HVAC Specialist II is responsible for assisting the Air Conditioning Foreman and Mechanics in the performance of assigned duties. This position will assist in evaluating the needs of each system to maintain critical heating and cooling systems on campus and will provide support to other Facilities Services utilities groups or departments in the performance and completion of various tasks as requested.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Foreman and other mechanics with monitoring, repairing, and installing air conditioning and heating systems on campus.
  • Monitor and correct any deficiencies in HVAC systems as directed.
  • Understand the type and purpose of each system used to maintain the buildings and areas of the entire campus.
  • Investigate technical problems and determine the best solution to maintain service to campus areas.
  • Instruct junior mechanics in the proper protocols and repair procedures
  • Report job information to supervision including any repairs or deficiencies found and the parts or materials needed to correct the condition.
  • Report and correct any unsafe practices or condition to supervision
  • Study technical materials and repair manuals to increase knowledge of equipment and systems used on campus and the safety protocols needed for safe operation of all systems.
Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications
  • Education:
    • High school diploma or GED
    • EPA refrigerant handling certification
  • Experience:
    • Four (4) years of relevant vocational or technical training may substituted for experience on a year-to-year basis
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Ability to understand standard equipment operating and handling safety protocols
    • Mechanical knowledge and skills to service and repair HVAC systems and related equipment
    • Ability to follow given instructions and keep records
  • Other Conditions:
    • Valid Driver’s license
    • Ability to wear a respirator and other assigned PPE
