This role requires hands-on maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, including control devices, boilers, and water treatment. The candidate will perform preventive maintenance, install thermostats, and handle piping, wiring, and related trades; flexibility for emergency calls is expected.

Qualifications

  • Experience with HVAC equipment operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Ability to repair HVAC control systems and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Comfort with wiring, piping, and basic carpentry related to HVAC systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journey-level maintenance, installation and repair of heating, HVAC, ventilating and air conditioning systems.
  • Analyze, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on all HVAC systems.
  • Maintain, operate and service boilers, cooling units, and associated control devices.
  • Install thermostats and electrical wiring; manage water treatment for systems.
  • Respond to emergency call backs and work safely on roofs and lifts.

Required Qualifications

Experience:

  • Charging, starting, and checking for proper operation of HVAC-type equipment and related devices.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing digital electronic and pneumatic HVAC control systems.
  • Starting, stopping, and troubleshooting chiller operations and chilled water systems.
  • Modifying and/or installing natural gas and water piping.
  • Operating, maintaining, diagnosing problems, and repairing industrial-type HVAC systems and control devices.
  • Performing basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and sheet metal work.
  • Welding and repairing materials and brazing pipe.
  • Cutting, brazing, and soldering high-pressure refrigerant piping.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate\'s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Additional experience in one or more of the Maintenance trades, as posted by the State, namely electrical, plumbing, carpentry or groundskeeping.
Responsibilities
  • Perform journey-level maintenance, installation and repair of heating, HVAC, ventilating and air conditioners and systems; perform related work.
  • Analyze, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on all HVAC systems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and buildings.
  • Replaces belts, filters, and bearings in equipment.
  • Prepares system for winter/summer carry-over and cold/hot weather conditions.
  • Performs cooling tower water treatment and closed-loop water treatment.
  • Maintains, operates startup/shut down steam boilers; performs water treatment of all steam systems.
  • Installs/inspects thermostats and electrical wiring of furnaces, unit heaters, and cooling units.
  • Adds chemicals and analyzes water treatment for chill water and heating systems.
  • Maintains air distribution and balance systems and heat exchange equipment.
  • Inspects and maintains specialized items such as clothes washers, dishwashers, coolers, freezers, ice machines, and domestic refrigerators.
  • Repairs broken pipes, fixes leaks, and cleans blocked pipes; installs and repairs plumbing.
  • Responds to emergency call backs.
  • Must be able to work on building roofs, in man lifts, and on ladders and must know how to properly and safely set up a ladder and operate a man lift.
  • Must have a valid driver\'s license.
  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing approximately 90 pounds, bend, stoop, shovel, and climb ladders.

Additional duties include direct and indirect activities to support recruitment and retention of students.
