Job summary

The University of Central Arkansas seeks an HVAC Specialist to provide on-campus HVAC services, identify repair needs, perform installations, maintenance, and upgrades, and assist other skilled trades on the Physical Plant team.

Required include an HVAC license, EPA G08 Certifications, minimum 5 years in commercial HVAC, ability to read blueprints, and a valid Arkansas driver’s license. This essential role supports campus operations and emergency response.

Qualifications

HVAC license is required.
EPA G08 Certification Types I, II, III and/or Universal required.
Minimum five years in commercial HVAC trades.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals and management texts.
Must have a valid Arkansas driver's license.
High school diploma or GED required.
Knowledge of safety precautions in the HVAC trade.
Knowledge of State laws regarding HVAC practices.

Responsibilities

Maintain and repair heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
Install, service, and repair HVAC systems per blueprints and specs.
Perform preventative maintenance inspections and repairs; keep area clean.
Coordinate with supervisor and other trades to complete projects efficiently.
Diagnose problems and plan replacement needs.
Respond to emergency situations during or after hours.
Participate in training and meetings as assigned.
Maintain vehicle, tools, and equipment in safe condition.
Other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The HVAC Specialist provides HVAC services on campus, with a specific responsibility to identify repair and/or replacement needs, perform installations, maintenance, and upgrades of HVAC systems and equipment, and assists other skilled trades in the Physical Plant. Other duties as assigned.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

This list is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.

1. Responsible for the maintenance and repair of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment; performs inspections on boilers, compressors, heat decks, chillers, air dampers and pumps; checks control gauges for proper temperature and pressure; observes operations and makes adjustments as necessary; checks motors, controls, switches, wiring valves, condensers and cores for operation; checks seals for leaks and corrosion; disassembles structural components when problems arise.

2. Installs, services, and repairs heating, cooling, and refrigerating systems according to blueprints and engineering specifications using knowledge of heating, cooling, refrigeration, structural layout, and function and design of components.

3. Performs general duties: changes filters in air outlets and cleans casings; performs preventative maintenance inspections and repairs; notifies supervisor of material needed; cleans and maintains work area; calibrates thermostats.

4. Coordinates with assigned supervisor and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.

5. Diagnoses problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning systems and repair and/or replacement needs.

6. Responds to emergency situations during or after hours

7. Participates in meetings, workshops, training seminars as assigned, for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.

8. Maintains vehicle, tools, and equipment for the purpose of insuring availability in safe operating condition.

9. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone and write. Occasionally, the employee must lift and/or move up and to forty (40) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work area. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by immediate supervisor.

Required Education and/or Experience

1. Must have HVAC license
