Job summary

Jennings Mechanical in Charleston, SC is seeking an HVAC Service Technician I to join the Service Department. You will learn on‑site while working on a variety of commercial HVAC systems, developing troubleshooting, electrical, mechanical, and customer service skills under supervision.

You’ll gain hands‑on experience from seasoned technicians, perform startups, maintenance, and repairs, and document work while collaborating with project teams. A path to grow into advanced roles is available.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • EPA Section 608 Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Able to safely use hand and power tools.
  • Strong communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with equipment startups and commissioning of HVAC systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot commercial HVAC systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on customer equipment.
  • Complete warranty repairs and punch list work.
  • Replace common HVAC components and assist with repairs.
  • Document service reports clearly and accurately.
  • Work with Project Managers and Service Technicians.
  • Maintain company vehicle and tools; follow safety rules.

Jennings Mechanical is looking for an HVAC Service Technician I to join our growing Service Department. This is an opportunity to learn from experienced technicians while working on a wide variety of commercial HVAC systems and equipment.

You’ll have the opportunity to develop your troubleshooting, electrical, mechanical, and customer service skills through hands‑on experience, training, and support from our Service Manager and experienced technicians.

You’ll work alongside our project and service teams to help get newly installed equipment up and running, keep existing systems operating properly, and solve problems when things don’t go as planned.

What You’ll Learn & Do

As an HVAC Service Technician I, you’ll build your skills through a combination of hands‑on work, training, and working alongside experienced technicians.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Perform equipment startups and assist with commissioning newly installed HVAC systems.
  • Learn how to diagnose and troubleshoot commercial HVAC systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on customer equipment.
  • Complete warranty repairs and punch list work on recently completed projects.
  • Replace common HVAC components such as motors, capacitors, contactors, belts, filters, and controls.
  • Assist experienced technicians with more advanced troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Learn to identify mechanical, electrical, and controls‑related issues.
  • Respond to customer concerns and help keep their HVAC systems operating reliably.
  • Complete digital service reports and learn how to clearly document your work.
  • Work alongside Project Managers, Superintendents, and experienced Service Technicians.
  • Maintain your company vehicle, tools, and equipment.
  • Follow safe work practices and OSHA requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing technical and safety training.
What We’re Looking For

You don’t need to be an expert. We’re looking for someone with the right attitude and the desire to learn.

Required
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • EPA Section 608 Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Mechanical aptitude and an interest in learning the HVAC trade.
  • Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Dependable, motivated, and willing to learn.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Experience That Will Help You Get Started
  • HVAC technical school or trade program.
  • 1–3 years of HVAC installation or service experience.
  • Experience with commercial HVAC equipment.
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting knowledge.
  • Experience reading equipment manuals, drawings, or wiring diagrams.
  • Experience using mobile work‑order or service management software.

Physical Requirements
