Job Title: HVAC Service Technician (Levels I - IV) - DFW, TX

Location: DFW Metroplex, TX (On-site)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary: $25.00 - $55.00 Hourly

This opportunity is with a well-established mechanical contracting firm with more than 40 years of experience delivering innovative HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal solutions. The company specializes in major mechanical projects for hospitals, data centers, and high-rise commercial buildings, earning a reputation for safety, precision, and high-quality workmanship.

The organization fosters a collaborative, growth-focused culture where employees refine their skills, share knowledge, and advance within a supportive team environment.

Role Overview

The HVAC Service Technician handles the troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of commercial HVAC systems across a four-level career ladder. Level I technicians perform preventive maintenance and routine service calls on rooftop units and split systems, while Level II and III technicians independently diagnose and repair light through heavy commercial equipment. Level IV technicians serve as the senior technical resource, working on screw, centrifugal, and air-cooled chillers, boilers, and building automation systems while mentoring the team.

The ideal candidate is customer-focused, safety-driven, and committed to delivering dependable, high-quality service that reflects the company's standards. Placement within the ladder is based on verified experience, equipment knowledge, and certifications, with a clear path to advance from one level to the next.

Core Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance on rooftop units and split systems, including filter changes, coil cleaning, belt replacement, and refrigerant level checks.
  • Complete routine service calls and minor repairs, working under supervision at the entry level and independently as experience grows.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant failures on light through heavy commercial HVAC equipment.
  • Service cooling towers, packaged units, air handlers, pumps, VAVs, and other assigned commercial equipment.
  • Conduct airflow diagnostics, duct balancing, and static-pressure testing.
  • Troubleshoot multistage, variable-speed, and VRF/VRV systems, interpreting wiring diagrams, low- and high-voltage circuits, and control logic.
  • Service, overhaul, and troubleshoot screw, centrifugal, and air-cooled chillers, boilers, and pneumatic systems at the senior level.
  • Work with building automation systems (BAS) and direct digital controls (DDC) to diagnose and optimize system performance.
  • Recommend repair versus replacement options, providing clear justification and cost implications to customers.
  • Follow all safety requirements and model safe work practices on every job site.
  • Serve as a direct point of contact with customers, explaining equipment conditions, work performed, and recommendations in plain language.
  • Complete service documentation, parts usage, and labor hours accurately and on time in the service management system.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and the service vehicle in a safe and professional condition.
  • Mentor, support, and guide junior technicians, sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
  • Respond to emergency calls and participate in after-hours or on-call rotation as needed.
