Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. in the United States (Illinois, Moline) is seeking a seasoned HVAC Truck Based Service Manager to lead a truck-based service team, drive profitable growth, and ensure customer satisfaction across the assigned territory.

You will manage service assets, develop operating plans, and collaborate with Sales to deliver service execution while advancing team development and performance metrics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or business or equivalent work experience.
  • Eight to ten or more years of progressively more responsible operations management experience in the service industry.
  • Five or more years of direct management experience.
  • Experience in HVAC, building controls, or a similar service delivery environment.
  • High-level competence in written and verbal communication.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to speak to large audiences.
  • Ability to lead and direct diverse teams.
  • Basic financial and accounting knowledge.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and a Windows-based environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.

  • Recruit, hire, coach, and retain service support staff while supporting performance reviews and development plans.

HVAC Service Manager

Role Overview

Under general direction, the HVAC Truck Based Service Manager manages the service team, service assets, and execution of the truck-based business. The role is responsible for growing labor and material business, delivering customer satisfaction plans, and supporting revenue, gross margin, and service asset management. Success in this role comes from strong leadership, disciplined business planning, and a consistent focus on team development and customer outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

How You Will Do It
  • Lead with accountability, safety, and integrity so the team knows what success looks like and how to deliver it.
  • Stay close to the work by reviewing operations, proposals, and financial results regularly, then remove obstacles that slow the team or affect the customer.
  • Use monthly one-on-ones, operational reviews, and clear performance expectations to build a culture of coaching, candor, and continuous improvement.
  • Work as one team with Sales, matrix partners, and field leaders to balance account ownership, resource needs, and customer commitments.
  • Apply standardized tools, systems, and service processes consistently so execution is reliable, measurable, and cost effective.
  • Make decisions based on service performance, pricing, gross margin, and customer feedback, then adjust quickly when results need to improve.
Qualifications

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $89,400K-$125,000. (Salary to be determined by the education, experience,knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with marketdata.) Theposted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role.
