Job summary

BJC HealthCare is seeking a Facilities HVAC technician for Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center. The role focuses on installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC, medical gas, and fire protection systems across clinical and academic facilities.

Responsibilities include routine preventive maintenance, calibrations, and system optimizations, with an emphasis on safe, code-compliant operations.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years experience in facilities HVAC, refrigeration, and related systems.
• Ability to perform routine preventative and predictive maintenance and calibrations.
• EPA Universal certification and knowledge of building automation systems.

Responsibilities

• Keeps equipment clean and operational; adheres to infection control and regulatory guidelines.
• Repairs and maintains HVAC, medical gas, fluid equipment distribution and fire protection systems.
• Performs routine preventative and predictive maintenance including calibration, alignment and balancing.
• Ensures all assignments meet applicable code requirements.
• Operates building automation system and makes adjustments as needed.

Facilities Engineering maintains 6 million square foot of facilities dedicated to clinical and academic functions. Facilities Engineering is comprised of 150 professionals, including engineers, MEP mechanics, building finishes and support staff. The Facilities and Engineering department at Barnes Jewish Hospital is a progressive, innovative department which stresses employee involvement, continued education/training and opportunities for advancement. Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Install, maintain, and repair various facility HVAC, refrigeration, and specialty systems such as medical gas and fire protection systems including distribution piping and electro-mechanical equipment and devices. Accomplishes the most difficult repairs and overhauls on any of the mechanical equipment in any facility in the system.

Responsibilities

• Keeps equipment clean and operational. Handles and disposes of hazardous and or infectious waste properly and practices infection control. Adheres to regulatory guidelines.
• Repairs and maintains all aspects of the facility's heating, ventilation and air conditioning, medical gas, fluid equipment distribution and fire protection systems.
• Performs routine preventative and predictive maintenance on assigned systems and equipment including calibration, alignment, and balancing.
• Ensures all completed assignments meet all applicable code requirements.
• Operates building automation system and makes modifications and additions to the system as required.
