Job summary

Liberty Personnel Services, Inc. seeks an HVAC/building automation estimator to prepare precise takeoffs and cost estimates for commercial projects. You will own pre-construction activities and coordinate with engineering and operations to align scope with budgetary goals.

The role requires strong ability to read mechanical blueprints, interpret specifications, and negotiate pricing while maintaining absolute accuracy. Local site visits may be required.

Job description

• Accurate Estimating: Prepare precise takeoffs and cost estimates for commercial HVAC controls and building automation projects using industry-standard estimating platforms.
• Pre-Construction Ownership: Oversee pre-construction phases to ensure optimal customer service, efficient resource management, and alignment with departmental budgetary goals.
• Quality Control: Review and QC estimates prepared by other engineering or sales team members for absolute accuracy before final submission.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal engineering and operations leadership to accurately scope controls points, labor hours, and equipment pricing.
• Relationship & Pipeline Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, mechanical contractors, and building owners to source new bid opportunities. Track proposals to improve close rates.
• Field Engagement: Represent the company at pre-bid meetings and site walks as needed.
• Experience: 1+ years of estimating experience in mechanical, electrical, or controls contracting OR 3+ years of hands-on field experience (mechanical, electrical, or controls).
• Technical Skills: Strong ability to read, interpret, and take off mechanical blueprints, controls plans, and specifications. A deep understanding of system architecture ("how and why" a controls system operates).
• Software & Detail: High attention to detail and proficiency working within estimating and bid-tracking software.
• Communication & Negotiation: Ability to confidently negotiate pricing and scope to align with organizational goals. Strong written and face-to-face communication skills.
• Logistics: Valid driver’s license required for local site visits.
• Direct industry background in HVAC or building automation controls.
• Prior experience in outside sales, account management, or business development.
