Job summary

Aircond Corporation in Columbia, SC is seeking an HVAC Project Manager to supervise project/construction work for equipment replacements and design-build system changes, with regional travel.

Job Summary

Job Title: HVAC Project Manager

Location: Columbia, SC (regional travel required)

Job Summary: The Project Manager will supervise HVAC project/construction work for equipment replacements, design‑build system replacements or additions, and may assist in design and troubleshooting. Primary equipment includes RTUs, split systems, mini‑splits, occasional chillers or cooling towers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Review project proposals or plans to determine timeframe, budget limits, procedures, staffing needs and resource allocation.
  • Purchase equipment and materials for construction.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of project personnel, adjusting schedules or plans as needed.
  • Coordinate activities of subcontractors such as crane and electrical crews.
  • Confer with project personnel to provide technical advice and resolve issues.
  • Assist sales staff with cost estimates of materials, labor and equipment, and prepare bids.
  • Assist in design and estimation of change orders to existing contracts.
  • Subcontract specialized craftwork.
  • Confer with engineering personnel to provide input on required design modifications.
  • Monitor and prepare project reports for management, client or other stakeholders.
  • Compile O&M and warranty paperwork.
  • Complete commissioning procedures as specified.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, MET or related HVAC engineering preferred but not required. Minimum of 5 years HVAC project management experience.

Required Skills:

  • Experience in HVAC or related construction/service industry.
  • Fundamental knowledge of commercial mechanical systems.
  • Ability to multi‑task, prioritize and stay organized in a changing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective delegation and coordination ability.
  • Excellent time‑management skills.
  • Travel ability as needed.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant computer applications.
  • Commitment to safety objectives and culture.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct or indirect management of employees within the Carolinas department.

Language Skills

Ability to read, interpret, and analyze routine business communications and compose standard business correspondence; present information, data, facts and figures across all organizational levels.

Reasoning Ability

Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and sometimes complex written or oral instructions; handle problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

Mathematical Skills

Perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, averages and percentages.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands

The employee frequently sits and uses hands to operate computer keyboard and telephone; occasionally stands, walks, reaches with hands and arms; lifts or moves up to 25 pounds; must climb ladders, stairs and survey equipment at job sites; perform work outdoors in year‑round conditions; exposure to dust, dirt, common allergens, refrigerants or other potential hazards allowed.

Work Environment

The work environment includes occasional exposure to noise, temperature extremes, airborne particulates and other hazards. Proper use of PPE is required.
