Job Description
The Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible for overseeing the discipline at a project level and managing the project discipline budget on projects of varying sizes and complexities. The Lead Engineer understands the development and field implementation of documents through all project phases. The role requires coordination with internal and external parties, managing multiple tasks, establishing priorities, and directing others. The Lead Mechanical Engineer may work independently or under the guidance of the Project Manager. They are responsible for directing and managing workflows and supporting staff to meet client expectations and project goals.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer has a comprehensive understanding of document development and implementation across all project phases and complexities. They coordinate with various stakeholders, manage complex tasks, and act as the mechanical point-of-contact for clients and other disciplines. They are capable of conducting complex project code analyses, preparing bid, permit, and construction deliverables, and understanding technical and design aspects relevant to CRB’s market areas.

Responsibilities

  1. Interface with clients and external partners.
  2. Plan and direct work, managing project budgets from a mechanical design perspective on large projects.
  3. Work with a Project Manager on proposal development, man-hour planning, and project scheduling for mechanical scopes.
  4. Conduct field surveys and support field reporting.
  5. Identify and resolve non-compliant existing conditions during site walks and surveys.
  6. Develop training presentations for internal mechanical design and engineering.
  7. Develop construction drawing packages and specifications for complex projects with minimal oversight.
  8. Support construction activities, including RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development, and progress reports.
  9. Perform quality checks on documents for complex projects, verifying design calculations and documentation.
  10. Mentor junior mechanical engineers and designers.
  11. Lead advanced project system design and master planning with senior support.
  12. Lead a team of mechanical staff in executing discipline design and engineering for advanced projects.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with Mechanical Option.
  • At least 10 years of experience, preferably in a design firm.
  • Professional licensure (registration).

Additional Qualifications

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and discipline-specific software.
  • LEED, WELL, or similar sustainable design accreditation preferred.
  • Advanced experience in engineering calculations and designing HVAC, mechanical utility, and piping systems.
  • Deep understanding of mechanical/plumbing/fire codes and standards.
  • Experience conducting field surveys and supporting reporting.
  • Strong coordination skills across disciplines and with construction partners.
