Job Description

The Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible for overseeing the discipline at a project level and managing the project discipline budget on simple to complex projects of all sizes. The Lead Engineer understands the development and field implementation of documents through all project phases. They coordinate with internal and external parties, manage multiple tasks, establish priorities, and direct the work of others. This role may work independently or under the direction of the Project Manager. The Lead Mechanical Engineer directs and manages workflows and the execution of design and engineering support staff (Entry-Level to Senior) to meet client expectations and project goals.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer has a thorough understanding of the development and field implementation of documents through all project phases, sizes, and levels of complexity. They coordinate with internal and external parties, manage multiple complex tasks, and lead the work of others. The Senior Mechanical Engineer acts as the mechanical point-of-contact for clients, other disciplines, and pre-construction services for their scope areas. They are capable of completing complex project code analysis, planning, and preparing bid/permit/construction deliverables (including details and specifications), and understanding the technical and design aspects of CRB’s market areas.

Responsibilities

• Interface with clients and external partners
• Plan and direct work, manage project budgets from a mechanical design perspective on large complex projects
• Collaborate with a Project Manager on proposal development, man-hour planning, and project scheduling for the mechanical scope on intermediate projects
• Conduct and lead field surveys of existing conditions and support field reporting
• Identify and resolve non-compliant conditions during site walks and construction surveys
• Develop internal mechanical design and engineering training presentations
• Develop construction drawing packages and write specifications for advanced and complex projects with minimal oversight
• Lead and support construction activities such as RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development, and progress reports
• Perform quality checks of documents for intermediate complex projects, verifying design calculations and documentation, and ensuring overall project quality
• Mentor Mechanical Engineers I and II and Designers I and II
• Lead advanced project system design programming and master planning with support from a Senior Engineer
• Lead a team of mechanical staff in executing advanced project design and engineering

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or Architectural Engineering with Mechanical Option)
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in a design firm setting for Lead position
• Professional Registration (Licensure)

Additional Qualifications

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Proficiency in discipline-specific software
• LEED, WELL, or other sustainable design accreditation
• Advanced experience with engineering calculations and design of HVAC, mechanical utilities, and piping systems
• Extensive experience with mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection codes
• Intermediate experience with industry standards and building codes
• Experience conducting field surveys and supporting field reporting
• Proficiency in cross-discipline project team coordination and collaboration with construction partners
• Advanced skills in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems design calculations
• Intermediate troubleshooting experience with mechanical systems
