Job summary

State of North Carolina, Department of Adult Correction, Brown Creek Correctional Institution in Polkton, NC, seeks a full-time HVAC Mechanic I (S) to perform journey-level work in heating and cooling systems, refrigeration, hot water, plumbing, and food service equipment.

You will respond to work orders, diagnose problems, perform preventative maintenance, maintain records, and may supervise offender helpers; EPA Type I–III or Universal certification is required.

Qualifications

• EPA Type I/II/III or Universal certification is required by law.
• High school diploma or GED with three years of experience in HVAC maintenance.
• Experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing industrial HVAC systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performing special repairs and assignments that are received by work orders from authorized personnel.
• Identifying the cause of a problem; determining materials and tools needed and method of repair; and carrying out repair procedures independently on most jobs.
• Performing scheduled maintenance functions as required and outlined in the preventative maintenance plans.
• Maintaining accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment serviced, as required.
• Training and/or supervising the work of offender helpers.
