Job summary

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center is seeking an HVAC Mechanic I to join the Facilities team in Paramus, NJ. The role involves maintaining and repairing air conditioning, heating, and steam systems, as well as related piping and controls, with attention to safety and efficiency.

Preferred candidates have at least one year of experience, solid English skills, and the ability to work in a dynamic hospital environment. Per diem role with comprehensive benefits and ongoing training available.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year experience preferred.
• Ability to select and use tools and equipment appropriate to the task.
• Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.

Responsibilities

• Repairs and monitors air conditioning systems (central and package), heating systems (water and steam), steam systems (high, medium, low pressure).
• Maintains piping including chilled water, steam, condensate, roof leader and related piping.
• Performs rounds in mechanical rooms, logs rounds, monitors equipment and repairs plumbing.
• Performs plumbing installation and repair; snakes drain lines and sewers.
• Troubleshoots electrical and pneumatic controls and checks air compressors.
• Recommends safety and operation procedure improvements to supervisor; advises when replacement is needed.
• Responds to elevator emergencies and performs general repairs in assigned zone.
• Completes daily time report and assists with snow/ice removal.

Job Duties

• Repairs and monitors air conditioning systems (central and package), heating systems (water and steam), steam systems (high, medium, low pressure), temperature readings on fans and pumps, heating, cooling, and re-circulation pumps. Also responsible for maintenance of fans (supply, return, exhaust), and oxygen and nitrous oxide piping.
• Maintains chilled water, steam, condensate, roof leader, glass acid piping and all other related piping.
• Makes rounds in all mechanical rooms, logs said rounds, monitors equipment, repairs plumbing (sinks, toilets, etc.).
• Performs plumbing installation and repair. Snakes out drain lines and sewers.
• Troubleshoots electrical and pneumatic controls and checks air compressors.
• Makes recommendations to supervisor in regard to safety and equipment operation procedure. Also, recommends when the equipment needs to be replaced instead of repaired.
• Responds to elevator emergencies.
• Performs general repair to building and equipment on assigned zone/floor as requested.
• Completes daily time report at end of shift.
• Performs snow/ice removal as requested.

• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Assesses gaps in policies and procedures and creates necessary policies and procedures to fulfill these gaps.

Position Qualifications

Salary commensurate with experience within posted range:

$32.99/hr.
