RWJBarnabas Health is seeking an experienced HVAC Mechanic for our Community Medical Center facility in Toms River. The role focuses on maintaining and repairing critical heating, ventilation, and refrigeration systems to ensure patient comfort and safety.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED, HVAC licenses, and at least five years of trade experience, plus a NJ Driver's License. Expect a 8am–4:30pm schedule with on-call duties every other week.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or GED and HVAC-related certifications or licenses.
• Minimum of 5 years of trade experience in HVAC or related field.
• Valid New Jersey Driver's License.
• Healthcare or hospitality experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair HVAC, refrigeration, heating equipment and building systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections to keep systems safe and operational.
• Respond to scheduled requests, emergencies, and on‑call service as needed.
• Troubleshoot pumps, motors, air compressors, valves, and other equipment; assist electricians with installation and repairs.
• Support non-clinical hospital equipment maintenance and collaborate with Engineering leadership to complete projects safely.

As a Maintenance Craft Trade - HVAC Mechanic, a typical day might include the following:

• Maintaining and repairing air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating equipment, including split A/C systems, rooftop units, walk-in refrigerators and freezers, ice machines, and electronic controls.
• Performing preventative maintenance and routine inspections to ensure building systems remain safe, operational, and compliant.
• Responding to scheduled maintenance requests, emergency repairs, and on-call service needs throughout the Medical Center.
• Troubleshooting and repairing pumps, motors, air compressors, valves, and other plant equipment.
• Assisting electricians with troubleshooting, repairs, and installation of new electrical services.
• Repairing plumbing fixtures, sinks, toilets, drain lines, and related building systems.
• Installing and repairing doors, locks, windows, screens, and performing general carpentry, painting, and plaster work.
• Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing non-clinical hospital equipment while ensuring compliance with safety standards.
• Collaborating with Engineering leadership, supervisors, and fellow mechanics to complete projects safely and efficiently.
• Delivering timely, reliable building services that support patients, visitors, physicians, and staff.
• Remaining flexible to respond to routine and emergency service calls, including overtime as needed.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, appropriate certifications or licenses related to the HVAC trade, and a minimum of 5 years of trade experience. You must also have a valid New Jersey Driver's License. Preferred qualifications includeprevious experience working in healthcare, hospitality, or similar service-focused environment. Please be advised that this is a Full-Time position, Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm, with on-call requirements every other week.
