The NC Department of Adult Correction seeks an HVAC Technician for the ACE Team. The North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections (NCDAC) is the largest state agency responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of adults sentenced after violating North Carolina laws. This includes State Prisons, Correction Enterprises, Division of Community Corrections, and Reentry Programs and Services.
We are recruiting for an energized and collaborative HVAC Technician – ACE Team (HVAC Mechanic I) to install air conditioning systems in NCDAC Institutions as part of the Construction Apprenticeship Program (CAP). The role involves completing HVAC system installations on construction projects.
A successful candidate will have journeyman-level experience in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems, be able to work independently, read blueprints, and perform related duties.
This full-time position (40 hours/week) offers State benefits, with a work schedule from Monday to Thursday, possibly including weekends and overnight travel. The position is based at a designated duty station with a State-owned vehicle for work use.

Note for Current State Employees: The salary grade is NC08. Applicants may be considered for a salary increase based on qualifications and internal equity.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Minimum Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED plus three years of experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, or repair, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. EPA certification as a Type I, II, III, or Universal technician is required.
Additional Information: The department is one of the largest state agencies, overseeing various divisions including the Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM), which manages construction and maintenance projects across state facilities.
