Job summary

Georgetown University is seeking an HVAC Mechanic to join its on-campus facilities team. The role is full-time, 40 hours per week, at the Main Campus in Washington, DC, with a pay rate of $35.30 per hour.

You will perform repairs and preventative maintenance on HVAC and refrigeration systems, work with DDC/EMS and pneumatic controls, and ensure safe, reliable operation for campus facilities. Applicants should have a HS diploma, five years’ experience, EPA certification, and completed HVAC

• Minimum five years’ experience in commercial and residential HVAC/refrigeration.
• EPA Universal CFC certification is required.
• Completion of an apprenticeship or four years of equivalent training in HVAC/R.
• Knowledge of DDC/EMS systems and pneumatic controls.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain HVAC and refrigeration systems and components up to DDC/EMS panels.
• Perform journeyman-level maintenance and repairs per industry standards.
• Execute scheduled preventative maintenance and a variety of projects.
• Follow safety rules and use standard trade tools.

Position: HVAC Mechanic (Position # P47356) – Full-time, 40 hours per week.
Pay: $35.30 per hour.
Location: Main Campus, 3700 “O” Street, Washington, DC.

Responsibilities

• Manage all repairs and maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems and components up to DDC/energy management panels, including work associated with pneumatic thermostats, actuators, air distribution lines, end devices, compressors, dryers, filters, PRV stations, and VAV controls.
• Perform journeyman‑level maintenance and repairs in accordance with industry trade practices.
• Execute scheduled preventative maintenance and unscheduled or special work such as overhauls, replacements, surveys, and similar projects.
• Use standard tools, equipment, materials, and supplies of the trade while observing all safety rules, regulations, and precautions.

Work Interactions

The incumbent reports directly to the Mechanical Shop Supervisor, a Zone Manager, or the Preventive Maintenance Manager, depending on the area assigned. The role provides direct service to the department, ensuring a comfortable, safe, and clean environment for the university community.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of five years’ experience in commercial and residential HVAC/refrigeration.
• Universal EPA – CFC certification.
• Completion of an apprenticeship or four years of equivalent training in the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning/refrigeration trade.
• General knowledge of DDC/EMS systems and computer controls, and a working knowledge of pneumatic controls.
• Computer literacy.
• Valid driver’s permit from Maryland, District of Columbia, or Virginia.
