Job summary

City of Virginia Beach is seeking a Maintenance Engineer I – Heating and Air Conditioning to lead a team of up to five technicians and coordinate HVAC maintenance across facilities. The role requires a valid Journeyman HVAC license and a minimum of five years in related fields.

You will work with building directors, Fire/Police, and senior officials to ensure safe, efficient operations. Responsibilities include schedule management, equipment diagnostics, and collaboration with other trades.

Qualifications

• Requires high school or GED plus five years’ experience in HVAC-related fields.
• Journeyman HVAC license is required.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Preferences: Universal Refrigeration Certificate; Master HVAC license.

Responsibilities

• Oversee, schedule, and direct a team of up to 5 HVAC technicians.
• Coordinate maintenance activities with building directors and city officials; ensure safety and efficiency.
• Review plans and specifications for renovations and provide comments and cost estimates.
• Perform life cycle analysis of HVAC equipment and manage parts inventory.
• Conduct performance appraisals and monitor contractor work.
