Job summary

Trane Technologies seeks a Design for Manufacturability SME to optimize product designs for manufacturability, reliability, and cost. You will collaborate with design, manufacturing, sourcing and quality teams to ensure efficient production from concept through launch.

The ideal candidate has a strong engineering foundation with practical manufacturing experience and a proven track record in NPI, process validation, and cost-reduction initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 10 years combined experience in product design, manufacturing engineering, DFM/Design for manufacturing, or new product introduction.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, welding, casting, molding, assembly).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with design engineering to ensure manufacturability, assembly, quality, and cost optimization.
• Review designs, drawings, specs and BOMs for manufacturability risks and improvements.
• Provide DFM/DFA recommendations early in product development to reduce complexity and time.
• Support NPI and production readiness with cross-functional teams.
• Drive improvements for producibility, reliability, serviceability, and safety.
• Support prototype builds, process validation and manufacturing launch activities.
• Analyze root causes of manufacturing issues and implement corrective actions.
• Evaluate tooling, fixtures, and processes to align with design requirements.
• Contribute to cost reduction and value engineering without compromising quality.
• Maintain documentation of manufacturing requirements and lessons learned.
• Participate in cross-functional design reviews and promote Lean/Six Sigma improvements.
