Job summary

Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH is seeking a skilled HVAC technician to join the Facilities Management team. The role focuses on maintaining, repairing and installing heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, with emphasis on BAS control and energy efficiency.

This is a full-time, on-campus position with a 40-hour week and on-call duty one week every seven weeks. Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, 5+ years of HVAC experience, and familiarity with building

Responsibilities

• Read, modify BAS Sequence of Operations code and use BAS controls to adjust equipment operation and schedules.
• Perform daily system checks and monitor building control software.
• Monitor and maintain HVAC equipment.
• Implement energy-saving practices using BAS and troubleshoot mechanical systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on HVAC and BAS networks.
• Inspect and service control equipment for heating, ventilation, and exhaust systems.
• Respond to urgent HVAC/plumbing repair issues.
• Maintain safe working conditions and participate in on-call rotation.
• Assist with other Facilities Operations duties as needed.

WAGE RANGE:$44.00- $44.75 per hour. Wage is based on relevant experience and education.

Position Purpose

Contributes to the mechanical services team which includes the heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and plumbing shop operations with an emphasis in HVAC by maintaining, repairing, and installing heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment, ensuring effective and efficient operations.

Job Responsibilities

• Read, write and modify Building Automation Software (BAS) Sequence of Operations code and use the BAS digital logic controls to make changes to equipment operation, building schedules, software programming, creating historical logs/trends in addition to make changes at the application and equipment level.
• Perform daily system checks and operation of several software applications for building control systems.
• Monitor and control and maintain HVAC equipment.
• Strategize/implement energy saving practices on campus in addition to using BAS for troubleshooting, diagnosing and evaluating needed repairs of mechanical equipment.
• Perform skilled preventative maintenance & repairs on HVAC systems and BAS control network.
• Inspect, install, operate, repair, modify and test digital, electrical, mechanical, and electronic control equipment related to heating, air conditioning, fume hood, steam distribution and exhaust systems.
• Respond to and address urgent mechanical system repair issues on both HVAC and plumbing equipment.
• Maintain safe working conditions on the job and in the shop.
• Required to be on-call in the event of an HVAC or plumbing emergency.
• Perform other duties as assigned including support to Facilities Operations.

Position Requirements

Education

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associates degree preferred, preferably in HVAC Technology or a related field.
• NH State Gas License preferred.

Experience

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial/residential HVAC systems operations/maintenance and installation including direct experience with computer based/ DDC controls and energy management programs required.
• Firm knowledge of and experience with building automation controls similar to those currently in use within the Academy is preferred. (Schnieder Continuum/EcoStruxure; Siemens; Tridium Niagara)
• A working knowledge of mechanical operations and hands on HVAC maintenance, including electrical, electronic and pneumatic control equipment, steam and hydronic heating systems and air conditioning systems preferred.
• Proficiency with computer applications required

Physical Requirements

• Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work and officers must be able to remain on their feet for extended periods of time, go up and down flights of steps, as well as stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift.
• Ability to lift and transport a minimum of 50lbs without assistance.
• Ability to withstand exposure to inclement weather (rain, snow, sleet, freezing temperatures, etc.).

Additional Requirements

• Successfully complete upon hire a criminal background check (reviewed every 5 years).
• Clean Driving record upon hire (reviewed annually).

Will be required to wear personal protective equipment as appropriate for the work assignment.
