Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking an HVAC Controls Systems Technician to join the Facilities Management team on campus. This full-time role focuses on maintaining, repairing, and installing HVAC systems, with emphasis on BAS programming and energy efficiency.

The candidate will read and modify BAS sequences, perform system checks, and respond to emergency repairs. A strong background in HVAC, building automation, and related certifications is required for on-call responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years in commercial/residential HVAC operations/maintenance and installation.
• Direct experience with computer-based/DDC controls and energy management programs.
• Knowledge of building automation controls similar to those used in the Academy.
• Proficiency with computer applications.

Responsibilities

• Read, write and modify BAS Sequence of Operations and use BAS to adjust equipment operation and schedules.
• Perform daily system checks and operate building control software.
• Monitor and control HVAC equipment.
• Implement energy-saving practices and troubleshoot with BAS for repairs.
• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on HVAC and BAS networks.
• Inspect and test control equipment for heating, cooling, steam distribution and exhaust systems.
• Respond to urgent mechanical system repair issues for HVAC and plumbing.
• Maintain safe working conditions on site and in shop.
• Be on-call for HVAC/plumbing emergencies.
• Perform other duties supporting Facilities Operations.

TITLE: HVAC Controls Systems Technician

REPORTS TO: Mechanical Services Supervisor

SCHEDULE: Full-time, 40 hours/wk. On-Call 1 week every 7 weeks. Schedule may vary according to departmental and Academy needs.

WAGE RANGE:$44.00- $44.75 per hour. Wage is based on relevant experience and education.

Position Purpose

Contributes to the mechanical services team which includes the heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and plumbing shop operations with an emphasis in HVAC by maintaining, repairing, and installing heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment, ensuring effective and efficient operations.

Job Responsibilities

• Read, write and modify Building Automation Software (BAS) Sequence of Operations code and use the BAS digital logic controls to make changes to equipment operation, building schedules, software programming, creating historical logs/trends in addition to make changes at the application and equipment level.
• Perform daily system checks and operation of several software applications for building control systems.
• Monitor and control and maintain HVAC equipment.
• Strategize/implement energy saving practices on campus in addition to using BAS for troubleshooting, diagnosing and evaluating needed repairs of mechanical equipment.
• Perform skilled preventative maintenance & repairs on HVAC systems and BAS control network.
• Inspect, install, operate, repair, modify and test digital, electrical, mechanical, and electronic control equipment related to heating, air conditioning, fume hood, steam distribution and exhaust systems.
• Respond to and address urgent mechanical system repair issues on both HVAC and plumbing equipment.
• Maintain safe working conditions on the job and in the shop.
• Required to be on-call in the event of an HVAC or plumbing emergency.
• Perform other duties as assigned including support to Facilities Operations.

Position Requirements

Education

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associates degree preferred, preferably in HVAC Technology or a related field.
• Universal EPA Certification for handling all applicable refrigerants preferred.
• NH State Gas License preferred.

Experience

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial/residential HVAC systems operations/maintenance and installation including direct experience with computer based/ DDC controls and energy management programs required.
• Firm knowledge of and experience with building automation controls similar to those currently in use within the Academy is preferred. (Schnieder Continuum/EcoStruxure; Siemens; Tridium Niagara)
• A working knowledge of mechanical operations and hands on HVAC maintenance, including electrical, electronic and pneumatic control equipment, steam and hydronic heating systems and air conditioning systems preferred.
• Proficiency with computer applications required

Physical Requirements

1. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work and officers must be able to remain on their feet for extended periods of time, go up and down flights of steps, as well as stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift.
2. Ability to lift and transport a minimum of 50lbs without assistance.
3. Ability to withstand exposure to inclement weather (rain, snow, sleet, freezing temperatures, etc.).

Additional Requirements

1. Successfully complete upon hire a criminal background check (reviewed every 5 years).
2. Clean Driving record upon hire (reviewed annually).

Will be required to wear personal protective equipment as appropriate for the work assignment.
