Job summary

Building Controls and Services Inc. in Lenexa, KS is seeking an Application Engineer to coordinate with outside sales, promote and estimate product lines, and generate submittals for projects.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, 1–3 years of engineering experience, and solid HVAC knowledge. Expect travel to local job sites and periodic training, with a base salary range of $64k–$90k plus commission.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in engineering systems or related field preferred.
• Basic knowledge of engineering fundamentals and HVAC concepts and operations.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Mathematical abilities to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Possesses a strong ability in problem solving.
• Organized with attention to detail.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical plans and specifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Pre-Design Responsibilities: Create pre-job in Spectrum for time keeping and create pre-job folder with correct templates; keep folder structure organized and updated; estimate HVAC equipment and other items with Outside Sales; provide timely technical and project related support; generate basic controls layout, piping layouts, controls schematics and sequences; generate equipment schedules and specifications; identify spec opportunities to strengthen bids.
• Job Bid Responsibilities: Review plans and specifications; attend pre-bid walk-throughs with SE; generate equipment bid pricing and scope to meet bid timeline; generate equipment approval requests.
• Coordinate Product and Equipment Orders: Support Sales Admin with required documentation; complete job hand-off forms; create project folders and submittals; manage factory control configurations; order entry for product lines; assist with design questions post hand-off; help Outside Sales with change orders pricing.
• Training and Development: Study literature and attend training to stay current; familiarize with competitor products; create tools to improve processes; assist with training Equipment Application Engineer interns.
