Job summary

Hut 8 is seeking an experienced HV Substation Engineer to design high‑voltage substations and switchyards (34.5 kV–345 kV) for data center campuses. You will craft diagrams, protection philosophies, grounding, layouts, and equipment specs from concept to commissioning.

The role requires a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and 5+ years of HV substation experience, with knowledge of IEEE/ANSI/NESC standards. PE license is preferred; occasional travel to job sites is expected.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering and 5+ years in HV substation engineering.
• Experience designing substations from 34.5 kV to 345 kV.
• Familiarity with utility interconnections and transmission systems.
• Knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NESC standards; grounding and protection coordination.
• PE license preferred or ability to obtain; occasional travel to sites.

Responsibilities

• Develop the electrical and physical design of HV substations and switchyards (34.5 kV–345 kV).
• Develop one-line diagrams, protection philosophies, grounding systems, station layouts, and equipment specs.
• Prepare engineering calculations: short-circuit, grounding, lightning, cable sizing, station service.
• Prepare design documents: station layouts, elevations, grounding details, foundations, control buildings.
• Specify and coordinate major equipment: transformers, gas breakers, disconnect switches, protection and control.
• Review vendor drawings and provide technical guidance through procurement and construction; support FAT and commissioning.
