Job summary

Burns & McDonnell seeks an Assistant Substation Engineer in Ohio to assist the licensed PE in preparing design deliverables for HV substations (13kV–765kV). You will work with the project team through design and construction, adapting plans to budgets and client needs, while ensuring QA/QC and timely deliverables.

The role supports field inspections, data gathering, and client presentations, with a focus on team collaboration and professional growth.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree required or related ABET-accredited degree with FE exam.
• Internship/consulting experience preferred; EIT certification preferred.
• Strong communication and attention to detail; ability to lead and work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist design of substation projects from conceptual phase through completion.
• Develop substation design packages including arrangement, relaying, protection, grounding, and lighting.
• Support calculations: insulation, AC/DC systems, battery sizing, voltage drop, cable sizing.
• Prepare sketches, cost estimates, BOMs, and other deliverables.
• Apply IEEE, NESC, and other standards; support field inspections.
• Assist with data collection, client presentations, and project status reports.
• Ensure QA/QC and adhere to project schedules.
