Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Substation Designer (CAD Technician) to join our Substation Engineering Team.

You will prepare schematic and associated wiring diagrams for high voltage utility substations and renewable interconnections, collaborating with engineers and other drafters. The role emphasizes detail orientation, multi-project capability, and adherence to project schedules.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Design & Drafting Technology or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years CAD experience; AutoCAD experience preferred.
• Experience drafting schematic and associated wiring drawings for high voltage substations projects.

Responsibilities

• Create CAD drawings for substation schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Collaborate with engineers and other drafters to resolve discrepancies in drawings.
• Produce single line, three line, and power-related diagrams as required (L-lines, bus, protection and control schematics).
• Import tables and calculations (e.g., BOMs) and add notes to drawings.
• Self-check drawings for accuracy before review and delivery.
