Job summary

Champions-Oncology, Inc. is seeking an entry-level Husbandry Technician I to support in vivo oncology studies in mice within the Vivarium Operations team in Rockville, MD. The role is full-time with a Monday–Friday schedule and rotating weekend coverage.

The successful candidate will perform cage checks, monitor animal health, and maintain cleanliness while adhering to study protocols. GED is required and ALAT certification is a plus.

Qualifications

  • GED is required.
  • AALAS ALAT certification preferred.
  • 1 year of related experience in a Contract Research Organization or similar research setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily cage checks and weekly cage changes.
  • Monitor animal health and report health concerns.
  • Perform general sanitation on equipment, rooms, and facilities.
  • Transport materials, supplies, and waste.
  • Assist with surgical staple removal and study randomization.
  • Record data in room logs and the LIMS.
  • Read, understand, and adhere to study protocols.
  • Organize supplies and keep the lab tidy.
  • Work weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.

Schedule

Mon - Fri 5am or 6am start to 1:30 or 2:30 pm. Rotational weekends - 4 hours for Sat and 4 hours for Sunday, 1 weekend a month.

Primary Objectives

Support in vivo oncology research studies in mice as a member of the Vivarium Operations Husbandry Team.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform daily cage checks and weekly cage changes.
  • Monitor animal health and report animal health concerns.
  • Perform general sanitation on equipment, rooms, and facilities.
  • Transport materials, supplies, and waste.
  • Assist with surgical staple removal and study randomization.
  • Record data within room logs and the laboratory information management system.
  • Read, understand, and adhere to study protocols.
  • Perform general preparation and organizational activities, including supply organization and stocking, and laboratory organization.
  • Work weekends and holidays on rotating basis.

PRODUCTIVITY EXPECTATIONS: 300 cage checks/hour; 80 cage changes/hour; 90 staple removals/hour. To be attained within 3 months of training completion.

Education and Experience
  • REQUIRED: GED.
  • PLUS: AALAS ALAT certification.
  • PREFERRED: 1 year of related experience in a Contract Research Organization or similar research setting.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Requires manual dexterity, fine motor skills, and repetitive motion.
  • Requires sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting throughout the work shift consistent with a typical research laboratory environment and vivarium.
  • Must be able to lift and move packages weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Routine exposure to odors and chemicals.
  • Routine exposure to sharps.
  • Routine exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue.
