Job summary

IRCO's SUN Hunger Relief program in Portland, OR is seeking a dedicated Hunger Relief Support Staff member to assist with pop-up food distributions at SUN sites. This on-call, hourly position supports families by maintaining orderly, welcoming service and following food safety protocols.

Candidates must be 16+, be able to lift up to 40 lbs, pass the Oregon background check, and prefer bilingual communication.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older (labour rules for 16–17 year olds apply)
• Must pass Oregon Department of Education background check
• Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply
• Passion for food security and hunger relief work is encouraged
• Flexibility is required with short-notice changes
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Excellent multitasking and time management skills
• Sensitivity and ability to relate to a broad range of experiences

Responsibilities

• Be able to repeatedly lift, move, and arrange food products and equipment for pop-up distributions
• Be able to lift up to 40 lbs
• Follow operating procedures for hunger relief distributions
• Be welcoming, courteous, and respectful to all clients
• Communicate work availability to supervisors, including absences
• Follow food safety and school/district safety protocols
• Support community outreach and engagement to clients
• Push/pull carts up to 100 lbs on ramps and uneven surfaces
• Work outside year-round with minimal weather protection
