Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years underwriting all commercial lines including Property, GL, Professional Liability, WC, Crime, Auto, Umbrella.
  • Nonprofit Human Services and Education underwriting experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and make timely decisions.
  • Working to obtain CPCU or other industry equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Grow and manage a book of commercial lines business for Nonprofit Human Service Organizations and Education Institutions.
  • Advise other underwriters and support staff on processes and procedures.
  • Consult at the highest level of technical underwriting authority.
  • Analyze and assess exposures and acceptable risks to determine adequate and competitive coverages and premiums.
  • Build successful relationships with agents to drive positive business flow.
  • Analyze, select, and profitably price business with prescriptive coverage terms and conditions.
  • Examine inspection reports, locations, risks, financial information, and other tools to identify concerns.
  • Communicate with Risk Control regarding inspections, follow-ups, and insured service needs.
  • Drive corrective action or remediation strategies on renewal accounts.
  • Underwrite renewals, achieve rate-change goals, and issue nonrenewals as needed.
  • Escalate accounts requiring additional review or approval.
  • Release renewals, nonrenewals, and conditional notices in compliance with service and regulatory expectations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with distribution partners through portfolio reviews, service standards, travel, and agency visits.
  • Coordinate with distribution teams to build pipeline, resolve issues, and oversee change management.
  • Monitor agency health and market conditions affecting the portfolio.
  • Mentor support staff, train new hires and internal promotions, conduct peer audits, and review and approve referrals.

Requirements
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years underwriting all commercial lines, including Commercial Property, General Liability, Professional Liability, Worker's Compensation, Crime, Commercial Auto, Umbrella, etc.
  • Prefer Nonprofit Human Services and Education underwriting experience
  • Excellent communication skills both in writing and verbal
  • Ability to analyze and make decisions in a timely manner
  • Working to obtain or has already CPCU or other industry equivalent
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Successful completion of a background check
