Job Description

Savannah Technical College is seeking a customer-focused, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable Human Resources Specialist to join the Human Resources team. This position performs professional Human Resources work supporting the College's recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, leave management, personnel transactions, and compliance functions. The Human Resources Specialist serves as a resource to employees, supervisors, and applicants by providing guidance on Human Resources policies, procedures, and employment-related matters while ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state laws, Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) policies, and College procedures.

  • Provides professional Human Resources support and exceptional customer service to employees, supervisors, and applicants.
  • Coordinates recruitment activities, including preparing job postings, screening applications, scheduling interviews, facilitating the hiring process, and coordinating pre-employment requirements.
  • Coordinates new employee onboarding and orientation to ensure a positive onboarding experience.
  • Processes personnel actions and maintains employee records within the Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
  • Assists with benefits administration, including new hire enrollment, qualifying life events, open enrollment, and employee benefit inquiries.
  • Administers employee leave programs, including Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations, Workers' Compensation, military leave, and other leave programs.
  • Interprets and explains Human Resources policies, procedures, and employment regulations to employees and supervisors.
  • Assists with employee relations matters by conducting research, gathering documentation, preparing correspondence, and providing guidance to supervisors and employees.
  • Supports performance management and positive discipline processes by preparing documentation, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with applicable policies.
  • Maintains personnel files and ensures compliance with records retention requirements.
  • Compiles Human Resources reports, performs audits, and assists with compliance reporting.
  • Assists with employee recognition, engagement, wellness, and professional development initiatives.
  • Develops, updates, and maintains Human Resources forms, procedures, and reference materials.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of sensitive personnel information.
  • Maintains current knowledge of employment laws, Human Resources best practices, and TCSG policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Human Resources diploma from an accredited college or technical school and one (1) year of related Human Resources experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience.
  • Experience in higher education, state government, or a public sector environment.
  • Experience using Workday, GA@WORK, or other Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
  • Experience administering recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits, FMLA, ADA accommodations, Workers' Compensation, and performance management.
  • Professional Human Resources certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR).
Physical Demands

The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight, up to 25 pounds. Work is typically performed in an office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.
