Job summary

Cambridge Public Schools is seeking a Human Resources School Partner who will report to the Executive Director of Human Resources and work across schools to support personnel issues, staffing, onboarding, licensure, and compliance with collective bargaining agreements.

The role emphasizes equity, anti-racism, and culturally responsive practices, with responsibilities spanning recruitment, onboarding, and collaboration with DEI and Accountability offices.

Responsibilities

  • School-Based HR Support & Employee Relations: Serve as the primary HR liaison for school principals and leadership teams, offering guidance on personnel issues and HR policies.
  • Talent Acquisition & Vacancy Management: Collaborate with school leaders to forecast staffing needs and oversee vacancy postings in alignment with district and union guidelines.
  • Onboarding, Orientation & Licensure: Coordinate onboarding and orientation for new hires; monitor licensure requirements and ensure compliance.
  • Labor Relations: Ensure HR operations align with collective bargaining agreements and track evaluations, probation periods, and staffing assignments.
  • College & Community Partnerships: Develop partnerships with local colleges to promote educator pipelines, internships, and pathways.
  • HR Data & Process Improvement: Maintain personnel data systems and generate reports to inform staffing decisions.
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)/Accountability Office: Partner to embed equity in school-based HR work and support recruitment/retention.

Position: Human Resources School Partner

The Opportunity:

The Human Resources School Partner will report directly to the Executive Director of Human Resources and will have the following

Key responsibilities:
School-Based HR Support & Employee Relations
  • Serve as the primary HR liaison for school principals and leadership teams, offering guidance on personnel issues and human resources policies.
  • Support school leaders in addressing employee performance, resolving conflicts, and ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Assist with investigations, documentation, and legal counsel, when necessary.
  • Act as a Title IX Investigator.
Talent Acquisition & Vacancy Management
  • Collaborate with school leaders to forecast staffing needs and oversee vacancy postings in alignment with district and union guidelines.
  • Monitor applicant-tracking system data to ensure timely hiring and onboarding.
  • Advise schools on equitable and inclusive hiring practices to contribute to a diverse and effective workforce.
Onboarding, Orientation & Licensure
  • Coordinate onboarding and orientation processes for new hires, ensuring a welcoming and efficient transition into CPS.
  • Monitor DESE licensure requirements and support staff and principals in meeting certification and assignment compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of onboarding and licensure status.
Labor Relations
  • Ensure HR operations align with all applicable collective bargaining agreements.
  • Track deadlines related to evaluations, probationary periods, and staffing assignments.
  • Support resolution of grievances and contractual concerns in collaboration with the HR leadership team.
College & Community Partnerships
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with local colleges and universities to promote educator pipeline programs, including internships, practicums, and paraprofessional-to-teacher pathways.
  • Coordinate career pathway programming in alignment with district workforce development and DEI goals.
HR Data & Process Improvemen
  • Maintain personnel data systems (PeopleSoft, TeachPoint, TalentEd) with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Generate reports and insights to inform staffing decisions and identify gaps or trends.
  • Collaborate with departments to streamline workflows and support continuous improvement.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)/Accountability Office
  • Partner with the Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging to ensure equitable practices are embedded in all school-based HR work.
  • Support recruitment and retention efforts that promote a diverse, culturally responsive workforce.
  • Partner with the Office of Accountability to ensure compliance with the educator evaluation process and system.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary to meet the evolving needs of the schools, district, and HR office.

Your Skill Set:

As the incoming Human Resources School Partner, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

Required:
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in HR, including employee relations and staffing support.
  • Knowledge of labor relations, collective bargaining agreements, and public sector HR operations.
  • Strong interpersonal, coaching, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to equity, anti-racism, and culturally responsive practices.
Preferred:
  • Experience in a public K-12 school district or urban education setting.
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts DESE licensure requirements.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills.
Terms of Employment:

This is a full-time, exempt position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to fulfill the responsibilities of the role. As an exempt employee, this position is not eligible for overtime compensation under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Manager's level benefits package.
