Who You Are

You’re a relatively seasoned HR generalist who also thrives in the world of project management. You’re not just organized — you’re proactive, great with people, and love turning chaos into clarity. You enjoy being the glue to keep the team organized, helping clients define their needs, and you know how to deliver work that’s on time, valuable, and aligned with their goals.

  • A current HR consultant looking to add client-facing strategy and project management to your plate
  • A people-first project manager with a strong generalist background
  • A parent or creative professional returning to the workforce in a flexible, autonomous role
  • A doer who’s just as comfortable writing a job description as you are facilitating a kickoff call or tracking deadlines across five deliverables

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of HR generalist experience across the employee lifecycle (hiring, onboarding, compliance, employee relations, etc.)
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills: task ownership, deadline tracking, client communication, the art of the follow-up, herding cats, problem-solving, and herding cats... (yes we know that was in there twice)
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders and keeping internal teams aligned
  • Strong written and verbal communication — especially with clients
  • Comfortable working independently and making decisions
  • U.S.-based, with reliable internet and availability during standard working hours for meetings

Bonus Points If You:

  • Have worked in a consulting, agency, or start-up environment where you have to make your own structure
  • Are familiar with Gusto, Bamboo, Greenhouse, Airtable, Google Workspace, or Notion
  • Have led HR project implementations or designed people operations processes

What You’ll Do and Learn

At PEOPLEfirst, your work will be meaningful, strategic, and varied. In this role, you’ll:

  • Serve as the project manager for client engagements — track timelines, manage deliverables, and ensure team execution - driving overarching business objectives forward, delivering valuable products, and tracking and reporting impact through data and analytics
  • Partner directly with clients and internal experts to understand goals, set expectations, and translate needs into action
  • Support internal coordination by keeping senior HR consultants aligned and delivering products on time
  • Lean in on delivery as needed — writing job descriptions, building onboarding plans, updating handbooks, etc.
  • Contribute to the creation of scalable tools and frameworks for recruiting, onboarding, compliance, and performance
  • Help clients move from reactive to proactive by managing projects that align people strategy with business growth
