Roskam Foods in Grand Rapids, MI, seeks an HR Manager to lead a team of HR professionals and drive continuous improvement across plant HR processes. You will partner with plant leadership to develop strategic plans, ensure compliance with state and federal laws, manage employee relations, training, and development, and support cultural change in a manufacturing environment.

This on-site role requires time in production areas and offers comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, HR or related field.
• Five (5) years of Human Resources and employee relations experience.
• One (1) to two (2) years' experience leading a team preferred.

Responsibilities

• Disneys continuous improvement opportunities in HR processes and systems; acts as a change agent.
• Leads a team of HR professionals to meet plant HR needs.
• Interacts with plant staff to develop and facilitate strategic plans and objectives.
• Ensures employees at all levels are treated fairly per policies and laws.
• Leads employee relations investigations and recommends actions.
• Coaches managers on career development, leadership, engagement, and performance improvement.
• Collaborates with safety and management on workers' compensation and compliance.
• Interviews internal candidates for openings and assists with external recruiting.

Position Description and Purpose:

Key Essential Functions/Duties:

• Discovers continuous improvement opportunities and takes the initiative to drive incremental changes in HR processes and systems. Acts as a change agent.
• Leads a team of HR professionals to ensure Human Resources needs are met for the plant.
• Supports and interfaces with plant and strategic business unit staff to develop and facilitate strategic plans and objectives.
• Ensure employees at all levels are treated fairly in compliance with company, state and federal policies, regulations and laws.
• Leads complex employee relations investigations and recommends a course of action.
• Champions supports, and facilitates cultural change initiatives by training, supporting, and directing both employees and management staff for plants.
• Counsels, coaches, and advises managers and supervisors regarding career development, leadership growth, employee engagement, employment status, corrective action, job eliminations, performance development and/or improvement plans, reassignment, and reorganization, while analyzing and assessing legal liabilities. Provides appropriate follow-up.
• Collaborates with safety team and management on workers' compensation issues to ensure compliance and care for the employee.
• Maintains current knowledge of various HR laws, practices, procedures, and trends. Works with leaders regarding compliance with all applicable state and federal employment regulations and Human Resources policies and while meeting business unit/department goals.
• Partners with other plant HR and Shared Services teams as needed.
• Interviews, evaluates, and recommends internal candidates for hourly and/or salaried openings. May interview and assist with external recruiting process.
• Spends significant time in the production areas.

Education/Experience/Skills/Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in business, Human Resources or equivalent related field / experience.
• Five (5) years of Human Resources and employee relations experience.
• One (1) to two (2) years' experience leading a team preferred.
• HR experience in a manufacturing environment preferred and union environment is strongly preferred.
• Experience handling highly confidential and sensitive information.
• Experience conducting first-line and management training.
• Ability to interact with all levels of employees and be perceived as an approachable and knowledgeable resource.
• Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
