Job summary

Roskam Foods, a Grand Rapids-based contract manufacturer, is hiring an HR Manager to lead a team and drive HR initiatives across our production facilities. You will partner with plant leadership to align HR strategies with business goals while ensuring fair treatment of all employees under applicable laws.

The role emphasizes employee relations, training, compliance, and change management in a manufacturing environment, including union considerations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, HR, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of HR and employee relations experience.
• 1–2 years of experience leading a team.
• Experience in manufacturing HR and union environments preferred.
• Experience handling confidential information and data.
• Experience delivering training to staff and management.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of HR professionals to meet plant HR needs.
• Act as change agent to drive improvements in HR processes and systems.
• Partner with plant and SBUs to develop strategic plans and objectives.
• Ensure fair treatment of employees in compliance with policies and laws.
• Conduct complex employee relations investigations and recommend actions.
• Support culture change initiatives through training and directing staff.
• Counsel and advise managers on career development, performance, and reorganizations.
• Collaborate with safety and management on workers’ compensation issues.
• Maintain knowledge of HR laws and compliance.
• Interview and recruit internal candidates; assist external processes.
• Spend significant time in production areas.

Acts as a change agent.Leads a team of HR professionals to ensure Human Resources needs are met for the plant.Supports and interfaces with plant and strategic business unit staff to develop and facilitate strategic plans and objectives.Ensure employees at all levels are treated fairly in compliance with company, state and federal policies, regulations and laws.Leads complex employee relations investigations and recommends a course of action.Champions supports, and facilitates cultural change initiatives by training, supporting, and directing both employees and management staff for plants.Counsels, coaches, and advises managers and supervisors regarding career development, leadership growth, employee engagement, employment status, corrective action, job eliminations, performance development and/or improvement plans, reassignment, and reorganization, while analyzing and assessing legal liabilities. Provides appropriate follow-up.Collaborates with safety team and management on workers’ compensation issues to ensure compliance and care for the employee.Maintains current knowledge of various HR laws, practices, procedures, and trends. Works with leaders regarding compliance with all applicable state and federal employment regulations and Human Resources policies and while meeting business unit/department goals.Partners with other plant HR and Shared Services teams as needed.Interviews, evaluates, and recommends internal candidates for hourly and/or salaried openings.
