Job summary

Hoge Fenton is seeking a talented and experienced Human Resources Manager to join our team in downtown San Jose. The role will drive HR initiatives, manage employee relations, and shape our culture while ensuring compliance with employment laws.

You will oversee benefits, recruitment for business professionals and attorneys, and lead onboarding, performance reviews, and training. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of HR experience, preferably in professional services, and a proactive, confidential

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management capacity.
  • Prior HR experience within a law firm or other professional services (required).
  • Strong working knowledge of California employment law, including wage and hour, leave administration, and anti-discrimination statutes.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with benefits administration, leave management, employee relations, and full-cycle recruiting.
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented leadership style with excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain strict confidentiality in handling sensitive personnel matters.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary HR advisor to firm leadership, including the COO, and Managing Shareholder, on personnel matters, workforce planning, and organizational development
  • Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and best practices aligned with firm goals and legal requirements
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including but not limited to wage and hour regulations, anti-discrimination statutes, and workplace safety requirements
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of employee records, compensation data, and other sensitive personnel information
  • Manage full-cycle recruiting efforts for business professionals (non-attorney roles), including job postings, candidate screening, interviewing, and offer management
  • Oversee annual performance review processes for business professionals, including goal-setting, feedback, and compensation review coordination

We are seeking a talented and experienced Human Resources Manager to join our team.

Position Summary

The Human Resources Manager will play a pivotal role in driving HR initiatives, managing employee relations, and enhancing our organizational culture. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing HR policies and programs, overseeing business professionals recruitment and retention strategies, and ensuring compliance with employment laws. This position requires the exercise of independent judgment and discretion with respect to confidential employee information and sensitive personnel matters.

Key Responsibilities
HR Leadership & Strategy
  • Serve as the primary HR advisor to firm leadership, including the COO, and Managing Shareholder, on personnel matters, workforce planning, and organizational development
  • Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and best practices aligned with firm goals and legal requirements
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including but not limited to wage and hour regulations, anti-discrimination statutes, and workplace safety requirements
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of employee records, compensation data, and other sensitive personnel information
Benefits Administration
  • Manage full-cycle benefits administration, including healthcare, dental, vision, life insurance, and ancillary plans
  • Administer Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) programs
  • Coordinate and manage annual open enrollment processes
  • Administer retirement plans, including 401(k) programs, and ensure timely compliance with plan requirements
  • Partner with brokers, carriers, and vendors to evaluate, negotiate, and optimize benefit offerings
Employee Relations & Leave Management
  • Independently manage leaves of absence, including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, ADA accommodations, and other statutory and company-provided leaves
  • Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on employee relations matters, including workplace concerns, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions
  • Manage performance improvement processes and documentation, partnering with supervisors to address performance concerns
  • Lead full-cycle recruiting efforts for business professionals (non-attorney roles), including job postings, candidate screening, interviewing, and offer management
  • Manage onboarding for both business professionals and attorneys to ensure successful integration into the firm
  • Oversee annual performance review processes for business professionals, including goal-setting, feedback, and compensation review coordination
  • Support professional development initiatives, including training programs, career pathing, and continuing education opportunities
Management & Operations
  • Manage and execute day-to-day HR operations and administrative functions while driving process improvements and operational excellence.
  • Supervise HR administrative staff and oversee day-to-day HR operations, including HRIS maintenance, recordkeeping, and reporting
  • Oversee effective workforce planning and staffing alignment to support firm growth and operational needs
Qualifications
Required

Compensation and Benefits

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $145,000 to $175,000. This range reflects the firm’s good faith estimate of potential compensation, which may vary based on experience, qualifications, and skill set.
