Job summary

Motion Picture Industry Pension & Health Plans (MPI) in Studio City, CA, seeks a hands-on Human Resources/Labor Relations Manager to support employee relations, performance management, training, analytics, and HR initiatives on-site. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business, Organizational Development, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of HR/Labor Relations experience with people management/supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of CA/NY state and federal HR laws and labor relations.
  • SHRM or PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
  • Experience with training content development and adult learning methods.
  • Excellent MS Office, with Excel, PowerPoint, Word skills.

Responsibilities

  • Handle routine labor relations and HR inquiries related to policies and bargaining agreements.
  • Serve as initial contact for intake of employee complaints.
  • Conduct interviews and gather information for employee relations matters.
  • Co-manage performance management, annual evaluations and corrective action.
  • Maintain knowledge of EEO, union, labor relations laws and regulations.
  • Assist with developing plans, policies, and reports including EEO-1, org charts, labor agreements, handbooks.
  • Co-develop leadership and management training tracks.
  • Collect data to assess cost and policy implications of negotiations and disputes.
  • Prepare documents for contract negotiations with employee and labor organizations.
  • Benchmark compensation ranges ensuring internal equity and FLSA compliance.
  • Create and update HR reports and metrics.
  • Collaborate with HR Generalists and Talent Acquisition Specialists.

Role Overview:

MPI has an immediate opportunity for a hands‑on Human Resources/Labor Relations Manager to join a collaborative HR team in a key role supporting employee and labor relations, performance management, training and development, analytics and reporting, and related HR initiatives.

Local candidates only, relocation assistance is not provided.

This position works onsite in Studio City, CA. MPI requires employees to be vaccinated against Covid-19 with exceptions as required by law.

What You Will Need:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business, Organizational Development, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience as a Human Resources/Labor Relations Manager, senior level human resources generalist or business partner in California; people management/ supervisory experience required.
  • Thorough understanding of state (CA/NY) and federal employment laws, regulations, and guidelines related to HR, labor relations and contract negotiations, and leave management including including FMLA, CFRA, FLSA, ADA, OSHA and EEOC .
  • HR certification, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP or PHR/SPHR preferred.
  • Experience developing management training content utilizing current instructional design tools, engaging adult learning methods and demonstrated excellent facilitation skills.
  • Excellent technical skills, experience and familiarity with HR Analytics, HRIS and ATS systems.
  • Experience using Ceridian Dayforce and Salary.com compensation tools preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, including grammar and spelling.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience supervising, managing, developing and leading HR staff.
  • Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using MS Office Suite; intermediate Excel, PowerPoint and Word skills (advanced skills a plus).
  • Ability to identify issues and concerns as they arise and proactively recommend a plan for resolution.
  • High level of customer service skills, diplomacy, and ability to maintain professional working relationships within MPI and other third-party vendors.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent attendance and reliability, with the ability to work extended hours as needed.
  • Experience and ability to handle confidential information professionally and with discretion; demonstrated sound, professional judgment.
What You’ll Do:
  • Handles routine labor relations and human resource inquiries related to policies, procedures, and bargaining agreements; refers complex matters to appropriate management staff.
  • Serves as an initial contact and liaison for intake and assessment of employee complaints.
  • Conducts initial interviews and gathers information for employee relations matters such as harassment allegations, work complaints, or other concerns; informs appropriate HR staff when additional investigation is required.
  • Co-manage performance management activities, annual evaluations and corrective action.
  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations related to EEO, collective bargaining, unions, labor relations, and human resources.
  • Assists with preparation of plans, policies, documents, and reports including EEO-1, organizational charts, labor agreements, and employee handbooks.
  • Co-development and facilitation of leadership and management training tracks.
  • Collects information and data to assess cost and policy implications of negotiations and disputes. This may include management and union proposals, pay scales and wages, benefits, working conditions, and other mitigating circumstances.
  • Conducts surveys, interviews, and other research related to human resource policies, compensation, and other labor negotiations; collects information and reports results.
  • Assists with preparation of documents and records required for contract negotiations, meetings, notifications, and negotiations with employee and labor organizations.
  • Using knowledge and familiarity with compensation best practices, manage benchmarking of compensation ranges balancing external market pricing and internal equity, ensuring compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.
  • Create, prepare, update and maintain HR reports for analyzing, reporting and managing data.
  • Work cross-functionally with HR Generalists and Talent Acquisition Specialists.
Compensation:

The anticipated base salary for this position is $135,000 - $160,000 annually. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held.
