Our client, a supply chain & logistics company in Chicago, IL is searching for their first HR Manager to join their organization! Reporting to the CFO, you will play role in being a key "operational architect" for the human capital support function, responsible for installing the operational rigor necessary to sustain our global footprint. The successful candidate will lead the transition from manual HR processes to standardized, scalable workflows. You will serve as the primary champion for employee engagement, a catalyst for modern recruitment, and a trusted advisor to business leaders on all HR policy and compliance matters. We are seeking a hands-on HR Manager to join as this is a pivotal phase of their growth.
Responsibilities:
- Operational Compliance & Governance: Serve as the primary owner for global HR compliance. Audit, standardize, and maintain HR procedures across 10 jurisdictions to ensure legal defensibility and risk mitigation.
- Recruitment & Talent Acquisition: Act as a catalyst for modernized recruitment. Standardize the candidate experience, streamline applicant tracking workflows, and ensure a robust, bias-free hiring process.
- Employee Engagement & Culture: Champion our client's culture. Develop initiatives to enhance work-life balance and internal communication, serving as a feedback loop between employees and leadership.
- HR Policy & Procedure: Draft, implement, and maintain "Single Source of Truth" documentation and templates for all HR policies (Leave, Performance Management, Recruiting, etc.).
- Leadership Advisory: Partner with Business Leaders (BLT) and the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to provide guidance on performance management, employee relations, and conflict resolution.
- Systems Implementation: Lead the transition from manual, paper-based HR processes to digital platforms. Collaborate with leadership to identify and deploy performance management and analytics tools.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience: 6–8 years of progressive experience in HR generalist or operations roles. Experience in a scaling, multi-site, or international organization is highly preferred.
- Certifications: Professional in Human Resources (PHR), SHRM-CP, or equivalent global HR certification is strongly preferred.
- Multi-Jurisdictional Awareness: Familiarity with cross-border employment regulations or a strong aptitude for researching and navigating diverse labor laws.
- Operational Rigor: Proven ability to build and document processes from the ground up, moving an organization from informal to formal operational structures.
- Change Management: Exceptional skill in gaining "buy-in" for new ways of working, particularly when transitioning teams from legacy/manual processes to digital solutions.
- Stakeholder Management: Ability to advise senior leaders with data-driven insights and tactful, solutions-oriented counsel.
- Digital Fluency: Proficiency in HRIS, ATS, and performance management software; comfortable with the technical implementation of HR tech stacks, learning new platforms, and using AI tools for work efficiencies.
- Discretion & Ethics: Unwavering integrity in handling confidential and sensitive employee information.
