Job summary

Founding Farmers Restaurant Group is seeking an HR Generalist who will report to the Director of Human Resources and collaborate with the Recruiting Manager. This role focuses on employee relations, culture development, and HR initiatives across the company’s chain of restaurants in the DC metro area and beyond.

In a fast-paced hospitality setting, you’ll update the handbook, support open enrollment, ensure compliance with laws, partner with recruiting, participate in DEI and safety programs,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 1+ years of professional HR Generalist experience.
• Knowledge of traditional HR practices.
• Strong relationship-building with operational teams.
• Experience in restaurant, hospitality, or retail environments preferred.
• SHRM-CP or PHR preferred; certification sponsorship on hire.
• Spanish language is helpful but not required.
• Excellent writing and language skills.
• Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Team player with professionalism and confidentiality.
• Awareness of HR trends and compliance.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Human Resources Generalist will report directly to the Director of Human Resources and collaborate closely with the Recruiting Manager. This role requires a highly motivated individual with experience and passion for employee relations, driving culture, and has strong collaboration, organizational development, and communication skills. The Human Resources Generalist will work with the HR and Recruiting team to execute, implement, and report on HR initiatives across the company. This individual will work within a small team that thrives in a fast, innovative environment that’s driven by results and constant learning. WHAT OUR HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST DOES:

• Handles initial employee relations issues and advises on resolution
• Conducts thorough and fair investigations as needed
• Collaborates with the Benefits team to ensure that an effective strategy is developed and executed to communicate open enrollment
• Assists in updating the company handbook, ensuring all new state and federal requirements are communicated to the field
• Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance
• Partners with the Recruiting team to ensure that the company recruiting strategy is executed effectively and offers support when needed
• Attends job fairs as a brand ambassador when needed
• Collaborates and advises the health and safety team to develop and launch an effective workplace safety strategy and committee
• Assists with annual employee survey development and analyzes results while partnering with HR team to develop strategies to address feedback and deliver data
• Participates in the companies Council on Culture committee and collaborates with the council to ensure effective DEI strategy is maintained and initiatives are met
• Develops and produces HR related reporting as needed and works with the finance team to ensure accurate data is being produced and delivered
• Assists with company culture initiatives such as the anniversary program, gatherings, and employee events
• Performs other duties and engages in other projects as assigned

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE A HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• 1+ years of professional experience in an HR Generalist Role
• Possesses knowledge and experience in the tenets of traditional human resources practices
• Demonstrated experience in building relationships and partnerships with operational teams
• Experience in restaurant, hospitality, or retail environments strongly desired
• SHRM-CP or PHR Preferred *Will sponsor certification upon hire
• Ability to understand, write and speak Spanish preferred, but not required
• Maintains excellent writing and language skills
• Proficient within all aspects of the Microsoft Suite
• Is a team player with the confidence to take the lead and maintain high degree of professionalism and confidentiality
• Stays up-to-date and in-the-know of emerging trends in HR and state, federal compliance
• Able to travel to various restaurant locations - currently located in DC, MD, VA, and PA
• Passionate about all things people related!
• Exceptional time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
