Job description

At Cannon Instrument Company, great products start with great people—and we’re looking for an HR Generalist who enjoys being at the center of the employee experience. This is an onsite role in our State College, PA facility.

In this role, you’ll be a trusted and approachable resource for employees while keeping the day-to-day rhythm of HR moving. One day you may be welcoming a new employee, the next you’re recruiting our next great hire, planning a company event, facilitating training, processing payroll, or helping an employee navigate an HR question.

If you’re someone who likes variety, people, problem-solving, and making a tangible impact, this could be a great next step in your HR career.

What You’ll Do

*Be a Go-To Resource

Employees will count on you for timely, thoughtful guidance on HR policies, procedures, benefits, and everyday workplace questions. You’ll help create an HR experience that is responsive, approachable, consistent, and trustworthy.

*Find & Welcome Great People

Own the full recruiting lifecycle—from posting positions and sourcing candidates to phone interviews, job fairs, and coordinating onsite and virtual interviews.

Once we find the right person, you’ll help make sure their first impression is a great one by coordinating onboarding across departments and creating a smooth, welcoming new-hire experience.

*Help Make Cannon a Great Place to Work

Bring energy and creativity to employee engagement by leading our Activities Committee and coordinating company events, recognition programs, engagement initiatives, and community partnerships.

You’ll have the opportunity to turn ideas into experiences that bring people together and strengthen our culture.

*Help Our People Grow

Create, coordinate, and facilitate training on HR and workplace topics. Whether the goal is compliance, development, or simply helping employees and managers work more effectively, you’ll help turn information into useful learning experiences.

*Keep the HR Engine Running

Behind every great employee experience are HR processes that work. You’ll help keep ours running smoothly by:

  • Preparing and processing bi-weekly payroll and reviewing timecards and time-off balances
  • Maintaining accurate employee records and HRIS data
  • Coordinating open enrollment and assisting employees with benefit questions
  • Administering FMLA requests and maintaining required documentation
  • Protecting confidential employee and company information
  • Supporting departmental KPIs and continuous improvement initiatives

*Make Safety Part of the Culture

Play an active role on our Safety Committee, helping coordinate meetings and training, identify opportunities for improvement, and support a workplace where employees can do their best work safely.

*Make HR Better

We don’t believe in doing something a certain way simply because “that’s how we’ve always done it.”

You’ll collaborate on HR projects, identify opportunities to simplify and improve processes, and help us continually enhance the employee experience.

And because HR is rarely predictable, you’ll jump in on other projects and priorities when needed.

What You Bring

We’re looking for someone who has a solid HR foundation but is still excited to learn, grow, and take on new challenges.

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field; relevant experience may be considered in place of formal education
  • At least 2 years of HR Generalist or comparable broad HR experience
  • Working knowledge of employment laws and regulations, including EEO, FMLA, and FLSA
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus
  • Familiarity with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office
  • Experience creating and facilitating employee training is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to build relationships and work effectively with employees at all levels
  • Sound judgment, cultural awareness, professionalism, and strong ethics
  • A resourceful, solutions-oriented mindset—you’re comfortable digging into an issue and finding a practical, compliant path forward
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to shift between priorities without losing sight of the details

You’ll Probably Love This Role If You…

  • Like being the person people know they can come to for help
  • Enjoy a role where no two days look exactly the same
  • Can balance empathy with consistency and good judgment
  • Love creating an organized process almost as much as you love improving one
  • Get satisfaction from taking an idea and making it happen
  • Want exposure to multiple areas of HR rather than being limited to one specialty
  • Believe HR can be both people-focused and business-focused
  • Aren’t afraid to roll up your sleeves and help wherever needed
