Job summary

LHH is seeking a hands-on HR Generalist to support the full employee lifecycle in a fast-paced, on-site environment in Santa Clara County. This temp-to-hire role requires quick ownership, clear communication of HR experience, and a proactive approach to employee relations and compliance.

Responsibilities include benefits administration, leaves management, recruitment coordination, performance coaching, and HR project leadership across multiple offices within Santa Clara County.

Qualifications

• 4+ years experience as an HR Generalist.
• Strong knowledge of California employment laws.
• Experience with benefits administration, leaves, and investigations.

Responsibilities

• Manage leaves including FMLA/CFRA/PFL and workers’ comp.
• Handle employee relations matters and investigations from intake to resolution.
• Support talent acquisition: coordination, onboarding, career fairs.
• Coach managers on performance, policy interpretation, and HR best practices.
• Support performance management: evaluations, check-ins, development.
• Ensure compliance with labor laws and support audits and reporting.
• Conduct exit interviews and analyze engagement/retention trends.
• Lead HR projects with goals, timelines, deliverables.
• Support training on compliance, safety, inclusion.
• Act as culture carrier and model company values.

Job description

A non‑profit organization is seeking a hands‑on HR Generalist to join the team on a temp‑to‑hire basis. This is a true generalist role supporting the full employee lifecycle and requires someone who can step in quickly, own the work, and articulate their HR experience clearly and in detail.

This position does require driving to different offices within the Santa Clara County from time to time.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary point of contact for employee HR inquiries, policies, and best practices
• Administer employee benefits, including leading open enrollment and working with vendors to resolve issues
• Manage protected leaves of absence, including FMLA, CFRA, PFL, workers’ compensation, and accommodations
• Handle employee relations matters and conduct employee investigations from intake through resolution, partnering with leadership and legal as needed
• Support talent acquisition efforts, including recruiting coordination, hiring, onboarding, and career fairs
• Coach and advise managers on employee performance, policy interpretation, and HR best practices
• Support performance management processes, including evaluations, check‑ins, and development initiatives
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws; support audits and HR reporting
• Conduct exit interviews and analyze trends related to engagement and retention
• Lead and support HR projects by defining goals, timelines, and deliverables
• Support training initiatives related to compliance, safety, and inclusion
• Act as a culture carrier and model organizational values in daily work
• Perform additional HR duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a true HR Generalist of at least 4 years
• Strong working knowledge of California employment laws and HR practices
• Ability to clearly explain HR processes and responsibilities step‑by‑step
• Hands‑on experience with HRIS and ATS systems
• Paycom experience is a plus, not required
• Experience handling benefits administration, leaves, employee relations, and investigations
• Comfortable working fully onsite and in a fast‑paced environment
