Job summary

Private Staff Group is seeking an experienced HR Generalist to support the HR Manager in a small, close-knit team with real ownership and growth potential. The role requires hands-on payroll processing and end-to-end recruiting across Commack and Bayside.

The ideal candidate will manage semi-monthly payroll cycles, lead recruiting through various platforms, handle employee relations, enrollment, onboarding, and ensure HR compliance across the two locations.

Qualifications

• 5 to 7 years of hands-on HR experience spanning multiple functions
• Proven independent payroll processing experience
• Demonstrated full-cycle recruiting ownership across platforms
• Familiarity with HRIS/payroll platforms; ADP or Workday a plus
• Familiarity with employment law and HR compliance practices

Responsibilities

• Own semi-monthly payroll processing and cycle independently
• Own end-to-end recruiting across multiple platforms (Indeed, ZipRecruiter, LinkedIn, etc.)
• Support HR Manager on employee relations and documentation
• Manage benefits enrollment, open enrollment, leave administration (PFL, Disability, ACA)
• New hire onboarding including system entry in ADP and Workday; maintain compliance and training records

Private Staff Group is in search of an experienced HR Generalist to support the HR Manager of a well-established insurance organization. This is a hands-on, broadly scoped role for someone ready to take real ownership within a small, close-knit team, with genuine room to grow long-term.

Two areas require full independence:

This person must have hands-on payroll processing experience and be able to run a semi-monthly cycle independently and accurately when the HR Manager is unavailable.

They must also own all areas of recruiting end to end across both locations, including job postings, sourcing strategy, screening, phone screens, interview coordination, and managing candidates through to offer, working independently across Indeed, Ideal Traits, ZipRecruiter, LinkedIn, and other relevant platforms.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Supporting the HR Manager on employee relations matters and documentation
• Benefits enrollment, open enrollment, and leave administration (PFL, Disability, ACA)
• New hire onboarding, including system entry in ADP and Workday
• HR compliance, recordkeeping, handbook updates, and mandatory training tracking
• Headcount, turnover, and retention reporting
