The Human Resources Generalist will support all phases of day-to-day Human Resources management activities such as recruiting, onboarding, compliance with policies and local/state/federal laws, employee relations, Workday administration and terminations.

The Human Resources Generalist will ensure the company’s culture is considered in all actions, decisions and interactions in which he or she is involved, and continually look for opportunities to improve processes which provide better results for the benefit of employees and managers in Columbus and the three satellite locations in Maryland, Connecticut, and Minnesota.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING (% of Time)
  1. 1. Attract, hire and engage a no-equal workforce. (60%) Work with leaders to create/maintain concise, well-written job descriptions to ensure team or department responsibilities are analyzed and accurately reflect the role. Respectfully challenge leaders on skills, competencies and experience to ensure the appropriate levels are identified. Assist in the development and maintenance of level cutters to ensure employees know the skill levels required by the organization for promotions and effectiveness in the role. Partner with Talent Acquisition and Hiring Manager to interview potential new hires. Suggest and adapt to more efficient and effective sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding processes and techniques. Mediate disputes and assist employees in addressing concerns with managers. Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Conduct thorough and legally defensible investigations. Anticipate problems whenever possible, and develop, recommend and initiate appropriate steps for resolution. Manage the day-to-day relationship with contingent workforce vendors and be the functional contact for all temporary workforce issues and questions. Ensure Affordable Care Act compliance with vendors. Drive and Support a Values-Based Culture Support and properly apply and enforce Simpson policies and practices. Assist in the establishment of new policies as needed.

  2. 2. Elevate leadership capabilities and prepare the next generation workforce. (20%) Drive participation and engagement to ensure Learning and Development programs are successful and results in an increase in leadership skills and effectiveness. Support and/or facilitate onsite branch training.

  3. 3. Implement sustainable and scalable processes, tools and technology to enable effective HR delivery by increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of HR. (20%) Implement human resources programs by providing Human Resources services, including talent acquisition, employment processing, compensation, health and welfare benefits, training and development, EEO compliance, and employee relations.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

If you can do everything listed above, you’ve got what it takes. Perhaps some of the following would be helpful too: Preferred Bachelor’s degree in business, HR, Communication or Liberal Arts or other applicable degree/ or at least 5 years of equivalent work-related experience.

Experience At least 5 years of experience in progressive human resources experience with a focus on training, recruiting, employee relations, policy interpretation and administration, and performance management. HR partnership in a Union environment. HR Certification such as: HRCI/SHRM related Certification (preferred) Planning and organizing. Uses comprehensive knowledge and skills to work independently while providing guidance and training to others on planning, organizing, prioritizing and overseeing activities to efficiently meet business objectives Accountability & Dependability: ability to be at work on time, and follow instructions, policies and procedures. Attention to Detail: ability to achieve thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task. Technical: basic computer skills with the ability to learn new programs as needed. Prioritization: manage multiple, simultaneous tasks and stay on track with associated due dates and deadlines for submission. Organization: application of physical organizational skills to maintain order and ensure safekeeping of important documents or proprietary information and property. Microsoft Applications : ability to perform intermediate level functions in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

TRAVEL REQUIRED

This job requires 40% domestic travel.

This full-time, non-exempt position is located in Columbus, OH.

PAY

$66,600 - $106,600 / year
