Job description

At Columbus Brewing Company, we believe great beer has the power to bring people together. Since 1988, we’ve been crafting high-quality beer, building genuine hospitality experiences, and showing up for our community — one pour, one plate, and one conversation at a time. Our mission is simple: create a beer for everyone, backed by experiences people can trust and enjoy.

We’re one of Ohio’s most established and respected craft breweries, and we’re still growing — through innovation, hospitality, and a relentless commitment to quality. Here, teammates aren’t just filling a role; they’re trusted to contribute, grow, and help shape where we go next.

OUR VALUES
  • Hospitality Mindset: We create welcoming experiences for guests, teammates, and partners.
  • Stay Curious: We embrace learning, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • High Level of “Give a Sh*t”: We care deeply about quality, accountability, teamwork, and doing things the right way.
WHAT IT’S LIKE TO WORK HERE

Working at Columbus Brewing Company means being part of a team that treats craftsmanship, hospitality, and community like they actually matter, because they do. We move fast, we hold each other accountable, and we don’t sit on good ideas.

You’ll be trusted with real ownership from day one. Whether you’re in the brewery, the Beer Hall, or behind the scenes in support roles, we’re building something people can’t get anywhere else, and having a good time doing it.

WHAT TO BRING
  • Lead with a hospitality mindset toward teammates, not just guests
  • Make sound, independent calls on day-to-day HR questions without needing to escape everything
  • Bring calm, discretion, and follow-through to sensitive conversations
  • Stay curious, ask questions, and get a little better every day
  • Bring energy, follow-through, and an eye for detail
ABOUT THE ROLE

As our HR Generalist, you’ll own the day-to-day execution of CBC’s core HR operations, payroll, compliance, benefits, and team member relations with the judgment and curiosity to see how the details connect to the bigger picture. You will report to the company's President.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF AN HR GENERALIST
  • Payroll & Compliance: run payroll accurately every cycle and keep CBC compliant on wage & hour, timekeeping, FLSA/overtime, tax withholding, and garnishments.
  • Benefits Administration: own enrollment, eligibility, and vendor/broker relationships, and coordinate with payroll to keep deductions accurate.
  • Employee Lifecycle: Own recruiting and hiring in partnership with hiring managers. Own onboarding and offboarding, including supporting terminations, ensuring consistent process and documentation across the employee lifecycle.
  • Employee Relations: be the go-to resource for day-to-day questions, concerns, and conflicts across all CBC locations.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: manage unemployment and workers’ compensation claims, OSHA and safety compliance, and required postings and recordkeeping.
  • HR Operations & Reporting: keep HR systems, team member records, and the handbook accurate and current, and deliver effective reporting to leadership.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience: 3–5 years of relevant HR experience.
  • Payroll & benefits know-how: working knowledge of payroll processing, wage & hour law, and benefits administration.
  • Independent judgment: comfortable owning day-to-day HR decisions without heavy oversight.
  • Systems-minded: picks up new HR tools and processes quickly and manages them well.
  • Coaches managers: comfortable helping managers build the skills and confidence to lead their own teams.
  • Hourly workforce experience: hospitality, retail, manufacturing, or another hourly environment is a strong plus.
  • EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System): experience working with a company that ran on EOS is a strong plus.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in HR, business, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience; SHRM-CP/PHR a plus.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

We believe in rewarding hard work and dedication. CBC offers competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications, along with a comprehensive benefits package designed to support our team members.

Beyond the paycheck, you're joining one of Ohio's most established and respected craft breweries, a team built on trust, hospitality, and nearly four decades of doing beer right.

We keep it laid-back, we don't micromanage, and we back that up with a benefits package designed to actually take care of you:

  • Health, Dental & Vision Coverage: comprehensive medical coverage kicks in just 30 days after your starting date, so you're covered fast.
  • 401(k) with Company Match: we invest in your future, with up to 4% company match on your retirement savings.
  • Flex Time Off (FTO): unlimited PTO for salaried team members. We trust you to manage your time, recharge, and bring your best, no counting days, no red tape.
  • Paid Company Holidays: dedicated time to slow down and celebrate with the people who matter most.
